Was wondering what Film Daily Yearbooks (ones from the early 1940s in particular) are worth and how common or scarce they are. I just scored one from 1942 on Ebay for $60.00 even and although it seemed like a wonderful bargain as I recalled seeing one around 2 years ago go up to $800.00 on Ebay, I see another one listed in the UK for around $2 (starting bid) from 1944. Which also leads me to ask if the ones they had over there were the same as the ones over here (US).

I think you're thinking of the dark maroon "Theater Catalogs" that were printed fomr the late 30's up to the late 60's... They are quite valualable... I still have a few of them around here somewhere. There are always a few listed like this one... This guy is giving his away!

That guy has two available, but he has a reserve price not met yet on it. Those start out low and go into the hundreds. That one you showed is a good one with a S. Charles Lee article section. The Film Daily Yearbooks can range from $20-25 at the old book stores here in Manhattan. On eBay for that year, it's a ok price. The older ones (1930's) to around the 1954 offer the best info on select sections on theatres. From 1955 they started to drop select information. The later editions into the 60's are lesser ones. I have 26 editions from 1930-1956 from MGM Publicity Dept. and select 1960 editions. They have alot of information in them on this business.

The five Theater Catalogs I bought as a film student I sold for over $4000.00 a few years ago. The series was tailored for architects and engineers and had a limited press run of about 1500. Film Daily was widely distributed; the early ones from the early 1930's where more interesting.
