What movies had he directed? Was he mainstream or Art?

edit: I asked this before Bill posted the names of the movies. I am dense, granted...

That's terrible. I know he directed "Cold Mountain," which I liked a great deal.

He was also a very active behind-the-scenes political figure in the British film industry and was active as a theatre director, too, hence his comparatively limited film output. He achieved some good things for the British Film Institute during his five-year stint as its chairman.
