could someone please decode the above forum entry to english, please?
Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 05-04-2008, 05:46 PM:
MMO... should be MMORPG. That's "Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games". WoW = World of Warcraft. LOTRO = "Lord of the Rings Online", I guess.
I really hate computer games. I prefer console games. Anyway you don't have to worry about Derrick making that jargon any more. Yay!

Here's the thing about WOW. If they are going to require me to pay a monthly subscription to play the game, than the software itself should be free. If I'm going to fork over 80 bucks for the software, I shouldn't have to pay an additional monthly fee to play it.
One or the other Sony. Not both.

Sony?

Blizzard. Whatever. Sony does this crap too.

I played Eve Online for a bit, the game was free, but you paid a serveice if I remember. Before that I played UO (Ultima Online). Console games are cool, but are limited to the console's limitations. Computer games can incorporate so many control, hotkeys, can be more in depth. I prefer them. I just wish they'd design some of the console only games for PC. They are getting better about it, it seems.
So who's game for some AvP2 (Alien vs. Preditor)(the game, not the Requiem movie)? I got dibbs on playing runner (Alien).

I played WoW for free a few months before their servers went live. The PvE was great and really easy to figure things out. Overall though I didn't care for it. I like to have a good PvP endgame and WoW just doesn't deliver. The extremely overdone cartoon look got old after awhile too.

Yeah, well, all of the cool kids are doing it. LoL

I was finally brainwashed into playing. My boyfriend bought the software and paid for the first 3-months service just to get me to play. He's a freakin WOW-dealer... first hit free.
I resisted for many many months and then caved to peer pressure. Now I waste many hours with my LVL 43 Human Paladin.
God I hate sounding THIS nerdy.

Boy before EVE. Free software, awesome PVP.
Just don't join BoB or Goonswarm-they are the root of all evil.

Off topic, but didn't the guy who 'invented' the modern role-playing games (like Dungeon and Dragons) just die? Can't remember his name ...

Gary Guygax. God, I just totally busted my geekness out. Let me go sulk now. So what leve dungeon master are you now?
Posted by Rachel Craven (Member # 1016) on 05-05-2008, 03:14 PM:
I'm such a geek. I waste away my life on my lvl 70 Pally (Horde Side). I am the GM of my guild, trying to get thru Kara atm. I also have a couple lower lvl's, in the process of lvl'ing a mage. *huff* Ok, I'm going to log in now...

Yes but anyone remember the original (what we now call) RPGs? Those old text based adventure games. "Go north. Look. Take Knife. Inv. use knife on wife" LoL Then the BBSes had them "online" you can play with/against others. I gues that'd be the original MMORPGs, that they now call MUDs. Of course I do prefer the action, strategy, and sim games more. I think I'll go load up M.U.L.E., or Forbidden Forest now. Grab something to drink while your 1541 disk drive is chewing on things for a few mins. LoL

Entire family played FFIX for a couple of years. The wife and I started out playing it when we first bought it, just to insure it was appropriate for our kids, and we were hooked on it too. Now I play Anarchy Online and Voyage Century Online, which are both free. I'm on the beta list for Stargate Worlds, which goes into beta testing this year sometime. It could be really cool if they do it right, and don't make it just a first person shooter with just a little RPG, like Tabula Rasa is.

That WoW stuff sounds like too much work to me. And the idea of having to pay an additional monthly fee for a game that already costs quite a bit of money on its own is a big turn off.
Call me old fashioned, but I just like to pick up a weapon and explode stuff.

All my friends keep trying to get me to start a Horde toon but I just don't like running around being ugly the whole time. And I don't care what they tell me - HORDE = bad guys and I just don't like being part of the problem.

I thought the same thing, but the amount of time you end up giving WoW, (and you WILL) it really breaks down to less than $0.50 a day. That's cheaper than a movie!!!

Ok, easy fix... play a Blood Elf. =) And we're not the BAD guys, horde and alliance aren't even at war anymore! OMG, I'm an uber leet geek! haha... Come make a horde toon on Gilneas and say hello!

Run
WTF, it won't fun. Do I not meet system req's? LoL But I have 64k of ram.
Actually, I tried Wow, on a private, player run, server not bad, but I liked Ultima Online waaaay much better.

I got rid of my old account with two 70's. And vowed to quit playing.
Then I saw the pictures of the Dark Knight class in the upcoming expansion and bought the game all over again. I recommend the battle chast if your starting for the first time. I play exclusively on the Server Blood Furnance PvP Orc Rogue 41 SN = cdumpster and climbing fast.
My guild is all right so far just message me for an invite or if you need some help (lowbie gears / run throughs).
Benny

Started a new character and guild on the Blood Furnance realm. SN = Caradhras.

Roll on a pvp server. From the moment you leave the starter areas you will be nothing more than cheap entertainment for bored 70s.

I actually lvl'd my main on a pvp server, then xfer'd to a PVE so I could play with my husband... fun stuff that pvp is!!! =)
And btw, I just got the beta key for Wrath of the Lich King... WOOHOO!!!!
Posted by Benny Walters (Member # 4894) on 08-07-2008, 06:43 PM:

I did too, but transferred to pve to make money.. The economies suck on pvp servers, but are great on some pves. Heck, I have been pulling close to 1000g a day without even leaving a city.

Denied outright or you just didn't get one? They're releasing them in phases, so just because you don't have one yet, doesn't mean you're not going to get one. My guild is all mad at me for it.. I'm the GM so I kind of have to be around, so I'm not playing the Beta too much.

Im a consol freak always prefear consols as you don't have to keep upgrading my pc just the play the latest games. so saying that I don't mind paying $12nz for xbox live and the cool thing is that you can use a keyboard and mouse still with a adaptor.

I haven't touch World of Warcraft in 3.5 weeks and now I having dreams that I'm in the game. LOL... but besides that my little brother plays and he has no job or life. He just recently put 1400g in our general toon bank, so when he goes back to school at the end of the month. I believe he'll have about 10000g if he doesn't tweak out his level 30 mage again...
