Wow! Another famous person bites it! So far, 2008 has been a nasty year for celebrity passings.

Tim Russert was among the handful of honest and true journalists at NBC.

R.I.P.

Your right that was a shock to hear about his passing.

That makes the second major network journalist to died in a week. Jim McKay from ABC Sports passed away last week.

You got that right. I always enjoyed watching him on Meet The Press because he asked tough questions and tried to get real answers and he had a low tolerance for political stonewalling.

He made me want to watch election coverage. I will miss him and his dry erase board!

He also seemed to be that great host that you could never tell 'which side' he was on. (R or D). Hopefully his son Luke will take over for him.

I think it was more that he was consistently on the side which wants them to "cut through the bullshit" or to point out all of their hypocrisies.

I guess no more Nats games. His seat(s) were in the section below ours back at RFK...he always said "hi" to everyone when he went up the aisle. I will say...he was a "large" man and generally became winded when going up the aisle.

Its too bad about his passing.

I guess NBC and ABC have had a person pass...I'm afraid if CBS has to "donate" to this...they have some very old newscasters with Andy Rooney and Mike Wallace.

RIP Mr. Russert.

Agreed. Those are ALWAYS the best! Same goes for movie celebs... most of whom today, though, need to keep their mouths shut on politics -- else they automatically alienate half their audience. I was a James Garner fan for years, until he said something so ignorant in an interview about those of the opposite persuation that I could no longer watch him and feel a connection. And it's beyond me why Hollywood keeps doing that. I've always thought it was foolhardy from a PR standpoint.

Russert would have none of this, and as such, could be viewed as truly neutral - which should be the general idea.

Very sad to hear of Tim Russert's passing. Anyone know what he died from? I'm guessing a heart attack.

I'm completely with Tim Reed on his comments. There are unfortunately so many celebs now that I can't stand to watch or listen to because they spout their mouths off every chance they get. I have very strong feelings when it comes to politics (as most people do) and I usually disagree with most things celebrities say. I think most of them would do well to take my brother's advice that he gave me when I was a kid, "Put your brain in gear before you put your mouth in motion".
