Now here's a "celebrity" death that actually makes me pretty sad. He was very inventive and creative to find ways to come up with what he did.

Why are a lot of these people only dying in their 60's?

Stan Winston's work on Aliens blew me away. It seemed difficult to top H.R. Giger's original monster design, but I think the queen alien did just that. It took more than 20 operators to bring the monster to "life" but Winston's team did a great job. Winston's T-Rex in Jurassic Park was another great accomplishment.

Winston's practical visual effects work was so realistic that even in these days of everything being CGI, his methods were still a better alternative for a lot of shots.

Winston is definitely going to be missed -especially on any upcoming Spielberg or Cameron project in need of any practical visual effects.

Way too sad. I met him about nine years at a film festival. He was really cool and signed ALIENS, PREDATOR, THE THING for me. Afterward, I took a picture with him holding a face hugger. Way too young to go. I just hope his studio keeps doing practical effects and avoids CGI...
