We all see lots of horrible trailers, but I'm talking about the ones that are so bad that they make you hate the film before it is even released.

My previous nominees would include Kangaroo Jack and Country Bears, but there is one in circulation now that absolutely takes the cake: Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It makes the film look genuinely horrible and I would be amazed if anyone who sees the trailer would actually consider going to see the film.

So...what other horrible trailers are out there?

I would agree with Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
I would also nominate Disaster Movie.
It parodies all the other movies from the last year (even Hancock which came out AFTER the trailer was released) but I don't recall seeing any disasters.
I suppose the gag is that the movie itself will be a disaster.
I'm not sure what I will pick for worst movie of the year.
Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Disaster Movie, or House Bunny.
I'll probably never know because I plan on seeing none of them.

Mamma Mia is my pet hate at the moment but what has really been bothering me lately is the way a lot of trailers keep fading to black every 3 seconds.

Maybe Joe knows for sure, but I'm convinced that the default transition on the Avid is dip-to-black. [Wink]

The "same-ness" of today's trailers is particularly annoying, but it's also fun to look at trailers from the 50s and compare their "same-ness" to each other. Trailers from the 60s have their own, general flavor as do trailers from the 70s. None of them would attract real customers today.

My nominee for bad trailer has to be the trailer for The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the Eighth Dimension. It gave me no incentive whatsoever to see the movie but, when I finally did, I really liked it.

Another for Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Even worse, the first one I had that came with Prince Caspian was so ridiculously loud, there was nothing for it but to trash it. Or was that a good thing?

Beverly Hills Dog thats what I call it. I think it is an insult to hispanic people and my senses.

The one trailer I can't stand is Mamma Mia. It bothers the hell out of me.

I've brought this up before, but Midnight Meat Train. Horrible trailer, ridiculous title.

I am also going to submit for consideration The Rugrats Movie. I had this on a trailer loop in the first theater I GM'd. Every 20 minutes I would hear, "Who Let The Dogs Out?".

I still have nightmares...

Well, Shane, you bring up a pet peeve of mine.

It's the annoying tendency of shows today to have the obligatory rap section somewhere during the end credits. The movie could be about Dr. Jonas Salk's development of the polio vaccine, and somewhere during the credits, it would cross fade from a nice string theme to "boom..bumpa..boom-boomp... 'WHO-LET-THE-DOGS-OUT!' boomp... boomp-boomp...!

Madagascar 2 - "She likes to move-it move-it, he likes to move-it move-it" Why is hip-hop parody required on all kids movie trailers coming out now?

I've also got to throw in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button simply due to the musical score that the trailer plays to. That music is heavily overused and that song is like nails on a chalk-board.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Prince Caspian (1st trailer)

I cant stand Mama Mia either.

As for the Madagascar movie, that thump thump thump when the trailer starts can be heard allover the theatre.

The Mummy trailer currently playing with Wanted is annoying too. Waay too loud, and lots of booming that makes me think it might be raining and thundering outside when I hear it.

Hip Hop! That's the name I was trying to think of.

The maggots in space and monkeys in space movie trailers currently in circulation have me fit to vomit.

I liked the movie Wall•E. But the previews were torture. Not only did you have the monkey and maggots in space trailers, the chihuahuas wretch and gag trailer was in there too. Add Eddie Murhpy's Dave star vehicle in there for good measure. If this is the sort of thing I'll have to endure constantly if I ever become a parent I'll seriously think about cutting off my nuts and throwing them in the river. Nah, that'll hurt too damned much (could bleed to death as well). I'll just keep wearing condoms.

There's been a lot of bad movie trailers put out in the past. I laughed out loud at the movie trailer included on the Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome DVD. It was so cheesy it was embarrassing. The movie trailer for Alien was pretty bad as well, despite the acclaim some have given to it. Yuck.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Meet Dave and Bolt are the worst I've seen so far this year.

The Sex and the City trailer was annoying because it had the movie's release date in it four times....twice spoken, twice onscreen. That trailer ran exactly once here before I pulled it. (Usually I try to cut-out or cover-up the release dates if we're not playing the movie on the break, and it was impossible on that trailer without ruining it completely.)

Speaking of Meet Dave, they killed that movie off completely by using that title. They had a perfectly good title (Starship Dave) that might have aroused some curiosity and junked it...why? Not that it matters, the movie is going to suck and bomb anyway.

Because it reminds the kids of black rappers, who are the coolest people on the planet, didn't you know that? [puke]

What does everyone hate about the Mama Mia trailer? The Abba songs? The stupid premise? I kind of approve of the trailer since it is so bright and shows off how clean our film can be. I never listen to the sound.

I liked the Mamma Mia trailer, its just fun. Along with the fade to black, the other thing in a lot of trailers is the transition flashes made from two white frames, I like watching them come and go from the platter... Good fun.

Any trailer with Willie Nelson. He gives me the willies!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua has to be my least favorite. If you are having a bad night, get a bottle of rum or whatever your favorite spirit is and take a shot every time Chihuahua is said (or sung) in the trailer. It may soon become your favorite trailer....

There's an interesting and terrible trend which I've noticed in trailers over the past couple of years. Someone will say something funny, and then there will be a cut to an unrelated scene, with all of the characters laughing hysterically. It annoys the crap out of me. If a movie is so unfunny that the trailer needs to tell you it's funny, then the movie's crap. The first time I noticed this was HOLES. Most recently the SEX AND THE CITY trailer had it.

Black rappers make you want to vomit? Does that mean you're okay with the ICE AGE trailer using ICE ICE BABY?

While the Red Band Step Brothers is an improvement over the regular trailer, the only enjoyable part is when the top bunk collapses on Will Ferrel. It gives me hope that he will NEVER make another movie again.

Or appear shirtless. [puke]

Well, all rappers make me want to vomit, but the black rappers are the ones the kids think are the koolest. (Eminem is the exception.)

*SIGH*

And I thought that rap would go away as fast as it appeared. How wrong I was.

I dont like it either, but the people driving by my home with their rolling speaker box cars do seem to like it. I hear it all the time.

The rap that exists now is nothing like rap was when it first appeared. Back then it at least had a small micron of creativity. Now it's just about the cussin' and the shootin' and the pimpin'. Wow, how creative!

I _hate_ the Madagascar 2 trailer. Throw me an elephant gun, and I'll show you three ugly, charmless, blocky CG animals mounted above my fireplace, damaged right between their eyes.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua. We're actually getting this. And it comes out like 4 days after Wall-E in Australia. I am ashamed to do my job when that one hits, I can tell you that.

Any trailer geared towards female audiences like: The Women, Nights in Rodthane, Family That Preys, Sister Pants 2, etc.

Dreadful.

Does anyone remember that policy trailer that Loews had about 5-10 years ago with the two guys who were announcing a customer contest to create a policy trailer for the chain? One guy was like a wacky usher, and then the other guy was like a straight man. The only specifics I remember was that there was one point where the usher was urging the straight man to get to the point, and he very quickly says, "Policy trailer, policy trailer!" It was awesome.

Does anyone remember it? Better yet, does anyone have it?

Anything dealing with "rap" is equal to being a WHORE.

Sell out. Suck it. Freaking damned lame. Rap is now officially white people commercial corporate sell out lame fake music. I didn't like rap even when it tried to tell a true story of the streets. Now it is just a gimmick for rich bastards living in castles just outside Hollywood. I feel like lighting a fuse on a bomb.

Any movie trailer these days throwing rap into it is automatically dead-assed lame. Automatic suckage. It deserves only to be bathed in infected vomit.

That is how out of date rap has become. Yes. "Rap" is now officially old people music. Those young ones out there holding onto it only do so out of shame. Rap is lame. Rap is totally non-creative. It only talks and borrows off of the ideas of others. It only deserves to be forgotten. Rap is now just as embarrassing as what late 1980's spandex wearing hair bands are to heavy metal faithful. 100% embarrassing.

I really hope this pisses off a lot of younger folks who love rap. Get a damned life already. Rap sucks infected biomedical waste. It ranks nothing above that.

Wow Bobby, tell us how you really feel! [Smile]

I agree with you that rap has become way too commercial. I do think there is rap out there that is still poetic and that often gets ignored because it isn't commercial enough. I am thinking of groups and artists like Jurassic 5, The Roots and Common.

If you have seen Tropic Thunder, the character Alpa Chino, (this reminds of the talentless chart topping Flo Rida), is a great skewering of popular rap artists today!

Okay, I'll admit I was a bit harsh in my hyperbole.

But still, I see rap today as being the same as "hair band metal" as it was in its ridiculously hilarious dying days in the early 1990s. It really is that bad.

It's been a long time since the days rap really delivered some real "wake up" music via acts like N.W.A. and Public Enemy. Now it's just a lot of cashing in via the most negative traits of popular American culture.

If it were not for Beverly Hills Chihuahua, I could not annoy my staff kids at random times throughout the day by whispering "chi-wa-wa..." over the radio and them trying to figure out why they have a weird GM!

Honestly, I like the trailers for The Two Towers and Sunshine, and I love the films, but I really wish there was a moratorium on "Lux Aeterna" and "Requiem for a Tower" as the soundtrack for anything. Every single time I hear that music come up I want to strangle someone, so stay far away from me if the trailer for Babylon A.D. comes on.

The trailers for Madagascar 2 didn't bother me too much until they somehow ended up being the first trailer on almost everything we had.

The trailers for spoof movies along the lines of Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, & Meet the Spartans are always a torture as they are not funny and I then fear I'll be stuck screening them when they are released. Nightmare.

Anyhow, worst movie trailer in semi-recent memory: Little Man

And while I'm here, the ones that completely sold me on a movie the first time I saw them: Moulin Rouge!, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (the one that starts with Lacuna, Inc.), Fight Club, and Marie Antoinette.

Back in the 80's there was a film called "Chatterbox", about a talking vagina. That easily ranks as the worst trailer ever.

On the flip side, a halfway decent trailer for an incredibly lousy movie: "Supercross-The Movie". The trailer was kinda cool, but the movie sucked eggs. The only highlight of the film was my good friend Tyler Evans. (In the trailer he was the shirtless, tatted thug who says "You'd better watch your back.") [Big Grin]
