Does any of you get into college football?

I went to the ASU home games(season tickets). The seats I have are pretty nice and close. They're not doing all that great this season... But I am a USC fan so that'll be great to see.

Yesterdays game ASU vs. Georgia... packed stadium, apparently everyone and their mom from Georgia came into town.

Sooners football games in Norman are Oklahoma's substitute for the NFL. The games draw people from across Oklahoma. Plenty of fans drive up from Texas and other places too.

QB Sam Bradford seems to be playing quite a bit better than last year and the rest of the team is greatly improved. Hopefully the Sooners don't screw up their season by underestimating what they see as a lesser opponent in their conference. They've done that too many times in the past. The Sooners will have to go undefeated to get a shot at the national championship.

I was at that game too, and I was located at the opposite end of the stadium. I love college ball and never got into the NFL. Yeah after the 3rd quarter i left the game, my ASU pride couldn't take it anymore.. [Smile]

Then I went over to Harkins Valley Art on Mill Ave. and watched Netherbeast Incorp. it made me feel better... but then i saw the final score again. Go Sundevils!!

Yes Jen, I'd rather watch college and high school football than pro ball. Pro ball is too predictable and gets boring at times. The college and high school guys play for school pride and you never know what to expect. I'm a USC and Oregon State fan.

Dwayne, I left 10 mins into the 4th quarter. Only so much we could take. Then went to Tempe Market Place for some Starbucks and then over to The Keg. Was contemplating on seeing a movie but I've seen everything thats remotely interesting out now.

I am a University of Hawaii WARRIOR fan and last year, my team took the Western Athletic Conference championship with a perfect 12-0 season and had the opportunity to play against Georgia at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans where they got smashed by the Bulldogs. Very sad ending to a almost perfect season. They are not doing well this year with a new coach and the absence of almost all of the key players from last year such as Colt Brennen, Devon Bess, Bryce Mullen and a few others. It is good to see our hero, Colt doing very well with the Washington Redskins after he had graduated from the U.H. If he continues to do well like he did when he made his debut during the team's pre season games, he has a very bright future in pro football.

I like the atmosphere of college football, but that's about it. Their overtime is pretty much the worst thing every invented. That and the dilluted talent pool turns me off. The tailgating, however, is a good ol' time, but is it a rule there has to be at least one drunk guy hurling within 10 feet of everyone in the stadium? Every game, I swear.

College overtime is so much better then NFL, it makes for so much more heartache when you know you team has a chance to win/tie and force another OT and they don't. More dramatic then anything the NFL can give you.

I just hate how they change the game so much when you get to overtime. Special teams are 1/3 of a football team and the kick/return game gets completely removed. That's a big strength for some teams. Then, after so many overtimes, they start forcing teams to go for touchdowns, removing the rest of the special teams. It also handicaps teams with big deep threats. You can't get behind the secondary if you're at the 25. Also, they shut the clock off (other than play clock of course), so there goes another part of the game. It doesn't make any sense.

I agree it is dramatic, but only because you're plopping teams in scoring position instead of making them work the field against a defense like they had to the rest of the game. I would rather they actually play football for another period instead of some new game they switch to. If you're going to play a game for 60 minutes, you should be able to play the same game a bit longer to decide a winner, don't you think?

My Oregon State Beavers (1-2) knocked off Southern California (Undefeated and ranked #1 in the nation) 27-21 tonight. It's the second time they've done it in the last three meetings. The Trojans aren't going to want to come to Oregon again I'm sure.

Clemson booted Tommy Bowden midseason with a 3-3 record (3 losses to teams we should've creamed). Severance package about $4 mill. We're going to get stomped by USC this year. On our own turf too. :-(

...never know though, Michigan tends to show up for big games. This could be the game that they show up for and play like they do in one quarter of each game it seems.

I was present for that game and all the bad calls I saw were going the other way. I though McGahee would never play again but he has managed to do all right for himself.

BCS standings had Texas Tech going to 2nd and Texas only falling to 4th.

As a Big Ten person I have to give major props to the Big 12 this year. I got to watch the last quarter of that game and it was a great game.

Anyone see Michigan fall for the hook and ladder when they lost to Purdue on the last play? The Irish lost the longest game in school history too... what a Saturday.

In the unlikely event that Texas Tech and Bama win out they should both hold their positions.

Penn State winning out in the 3rd spot would have them being undefeated but possibly still 3rd in the BCS standing.

Who should play in the national championship game then?

For the record I don't think Texas Tech can win both of its next two games unless they show up and are completely lights out. OK and OK ST are going to get to them eventually. [beer]

Although I would not mind seeing the OSU Cowboys beat the Red Raiders in Lubbock, I think Texas Tech is just too tough a team this year. It was pretty cool to see OSU squeak out a victory against Missouri (then ranked #3 at the time). We're deeper in the season and Texas Tech has proven itself more than Missouri did to be ranked so high in the polls.

Texas Tech can also beat the Sooners as well. OU has one hell of an offense (arguably the best in the nation). Unfortunately, OU has some serious holes to fill in their defense and special teams. The OU vs. TT game will very likely be a shootout. If the Red Raider defense can stop OU on a few drives or even force a turnover or two they will have an excellent chance of pulling out a victory.

And even though Washington is stinking under Willingham, I think he's a great choice considering the sport's gambling escapades of the former coach (Neuheisel).

Glad to watch the Big Game again and come out on top yet again. Sorry to all the U of M fans out there. I thought you guys looked good at the end of the half but after the defense opened the 2nd half strong with a stop and we scored on a 91 yrd 2 play drive it was over but the crying.

The Irish were embarrassed yet again (wait until USC this week), and Texas Tech could not keep pace with the Oklahoma O. Having BCS rank as the tiebreaker for the Big 12 playoff is crap though.

Maybe some of us could do a college football pick'em next season?

what a freaking disgrace the 2nd half was. UM should be a 8-3 or 9-2 team next year. Rich Rod isn't going to be around more then three years if he does not turn it around. The thing he has going for him is that in his 2nd year at WVU he made them in to a winning program. Michigan will be back have no worries.

The BCS may not be willing to have a playoff system (asshole fuck-faces). The current situation certainly dictates the need for the Big 12 conference to have a playoff series of its own. Fuck the BCS and what it has to say about it.

It's just a strange triangle. Oklahoma loses a close game to Texas in the annual Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl. Texas Tech upends Texas in a thriller at Lubbock. Then Oklahoma just demolishes the crap out of the Red Raiders in Norman. These three teams have to be able to settle just who is the best. Arbitrarily choosing just one to face Missouri in the Big 12 Championship game is just plain silly.

Of course, OU could settle this issue by losing to the Oklahoma State Cowboys this weekend in Stillwater. It's happened before.

on a side note, unranked Michigan beat #4 Duke today in College Basketball. UofM's going to have a good basketball team for the next couple years, their starting 5 are all Freshman and Soph except 1 I think and they have a deep bench. They looked really good vs Duke today. Coach K didn't know what to do.

They are the Big East Champions and they will be going to the Sugar Bowl or the Orange Bowl in January.

Wow- they may face Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Holy Cow.

There's still an outside chance Oklahoma University could be denied a berth in the BCS Championship Game / Orange Bowl in Miami. I believe they deserve to go, but then I live only an hour's drive from Norman, OK.

Quarterback Sam Bradford now appears to be the clear front runner for the Heisman Trophy. Hard to believe the guy is only a sophomore. A lot of people have suggested he intends to stay at OU for 4 years before considering the NFL. However, his agent has already submitted some kind of exploratory kind of deal to see what Bradford would be worth if he went pro early. If the money is good enough he'll do it. That has to be balanced against the real possibility he could sustain a football career ending injury while still playing with the Sooners. It isn't likely to happen as long as OU has such a powerful offensive line, but you never know.

His name is Isaiah Pead. Watch for him in the future.

Sam Bradford just won the 2008 Heisman Trophy. I was kind of expecting Bradford and Texas' Colt McCoy to cancel out each other in the voting and end up with Florida's Tim Tebow winning. I guess Bradford being at the helm of OU's all time record setting offense (most points in a season) had something to do with it. Tim Tebow had the most 1st place votes, but Bradford had the biggest voting point total overall.

Mr. Pead made the game tying touchdown in today's FANTASTICAL win over the Pittsburgh Panthers (45-44). The Cincinnati Bearcats went undefeated in the regular season to obtain the 2009 BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP.

Cincinnati turned out to be a really exciting team this year...much more exciting than the Tressel-ball at Ohio State, where the emphasis is on the defense. I hope that coach stays at Cincy and doesn't head off to Notre Dame.

Isaiah was a terific back in High School. He broke all of Archie Griffin's records there. He also is a gentleman and a decent student. I'm really glad he is doing well. I'll be cheering for the Bearcats in the post-season, that's for sure.
