Vilcus dactyloadapter was developed specially for people who enjoy closing electrical circuits with their own fingers. Many people get a kick out of direct contact with AC power supply. To that end, people normally use U-shaped fragments of bare wire, paper clips or even usual metal forks. All these gimmicks are unreliable, short-lived and, most importantly, tend to cause short-circuit failure or even inflammation.

If this product turns out to be a bit hit (which I think it will) I want to put in an option to patent the Vilcus Peckerloadapter.

It's an upgrade from the two-digit input design. The new three-digit adapter accepts two finger sized inputs and a pecker sized input for the expressively masochistic customer.

I have a hard time believing it to be true.

The clincher is the last picture. It would be impossible to plug those things in, both vertically and horizontally, and still be able to get a shock from it unless you bridged the contacts with both hands or unless two or more people joined hands. If you did that you'd be passing electricity through your body, not just your fingers.

Somebody could die very easily.

I just can't get this past the BS detector.

Why bother with a device like that when an ordinary lamp would offer the same effect? Just remove the light bulb and poke your finger in the empty socket. Weee!

Randy, that power strip is real (or at least serious), the neutral/hot contacts are staggered in each row. The finger adapter is an April Fool's joke, though (the site has release date of 01.04.2007, which in D/M/Y format is April 1).

Well, it would certainly go across your heart. The amount of current would depend on your body resistance, but it doesn't take much to cause fibrillation. In an old GCC house back in the mid-80s, I was sweating in the Houston summer while modifying a Mark X automation, and got across the 120V line momentarily. It wasn't good. I tasted copper and was disoriented for several minutes.

"Jiffy Fuse Tester" I invented several years ago.

1) Plug it in.

It is impossible to predict what would happen; people have survived at least 11kV from substations and 25kV from railway lines, while others have been killed by less than 100V. I've had 415V from arm to arm, and it wasn't an experience which I would want to repeat, it was very painful though it did me no permanent harm. I was about 18 at the time, and was standing on some scaffolding which probably should have been earthed, but wasn't. Having no head for heights I was holding on to he scaffolding rather tightly. Almost all live working on low Voltage (<1000V) equipment is now prohibited in this country.

I've seen holes being drilled in live 11kV busbars, but I don't think I'd want to do that myself.

People who get 25kV tend to be children doing silly things near railway lines. About once every year or two there seem to be stories in the news about this; again the result generally seems to be serious burns. It probably helps that their hearts are generally in better condition at that age. Of course, there are others doing similar things who do not survive the experience.

I've had 240V across me about four times, only once as an adult. I would have been in my early '20s, and we had an Elf-Lite EX-1500 portable 16mm Xenon projector in th school where I was working. This had a separate rectifier on which the projector stood, with two short cables attached to it which connected to the projector itself. A mains cable connected to the rectifier; it had a small non-standard connector on the end of it with a screw-up metal locking ring. I conected the cable to the mains first, probably not a good idea, then as I picked up the other end to connect to the rectifier the bakelite body of the connector came apart, it was obviously cracked, exposing me to the live contacts. This was just one hand, it was painful, but no worse. All the other times when I had 240V were as a young child when I had a habit of taking things to bits to see how they worked. After a few times I got the message that it wasn't a good idea to play with electrical things. I've been lucky every time, with no serious harm done, but many years ago a neighbour very nearly died from an accident with a faulty electric drill.

I'm more careful with elctricity now, and for the last thirty years or so I've managed not to connect myself to any mains Voltage.

To be serious, what generally matters is the current, and where it flows. A tenths of an amp across your heart can be fatal.
