Ed Mccormick originally for Lanchsire UK came to canada after serving as the radar officer on the Duke of York and other ships of the Royal Navy during the second world war
before the war he was the chief projectionist at several Odeon Theatres
In Canada he originally worked as an operator in Brantford and Port Dover Ontario before becoming an Engineer with General Theatre Supply (later General Sound)
He was also one of the original Engineers founding Film House Post Production and later was with Zeiss Ikon's Atlantic Audio Visual where of many installations they included most of the film systems at Expo67 and Ontario Place
After which he became the chief engineer for Rank Odeon Canada and Later Canadian Odeon Theatres

After retirement from there he became the operator at several Toronto Theatres and was a member of IATSE Local 173

Ed was also an accomplished theatre organist and with several others founded the Toronto Theatre Oragan Society, where he and the other founders took out personal bank loans to buy the Shea's Wurlitzer from Maple Leaf Gardens and save it to install at Castle Loma

Ed is best remembered as the person that anyone in the industry could call for assistance at any time and always could count on his support His loyalty and friendship will be missed

Those still in the business will miss him

It's always sad to loose someone we know and as a former member of IATSE Local 577 he was a "brother". May he rest in peace. Thanks for the info Gordon and may God comfort you.

He was also a cartoonist. Several of his cartoons appeared in International Projectionist in the 1950's. May he rest in peace.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Gordon.

Here's one of my favorite Ed McCormack cartoons, from the pages of IP. I put this one on the booth wall at the last theatre I worked.
