Those figures have ZERO VALUE whatsoever. Human beings are not buying those tickets. Computer controlled ticket scalping companies are.

Go back in time about 20 or so years and if a figure like that gets reported I might be impressed. With today's technology, I would be much more impressed if the asshole scalpers were cut out of the equation and a high value concert's tickets actually took more than a few minutes to sell out.

I hope it's obvious I have a certain level of hatred for anyone in the ticket scalping business. May those guys get an ass tumor the size of a watermelon!

Elton John tickets sold out in about 45 minutes in Bozeman, Montana last year.

Even if scalpers were taken completely out of the equation, it's totally possible for about 50,000 people to all be online at the same instant, each trying to buy two or four tickets, so a show could easily be sold out in a minute or less in a large city.

I agree with Bobby; I used to go to concerts, but began to loose interest when the scalpers really ramped up 'hogging' the tickers via computer. Also things like when the Eagles jacked their prices up, because, you know, they only allow high quality T-shirts be sold and need security personal to stop the a few guys selling knock-off's in the parking lot.

Does anyone remember the issue with the Stones ticket lottery here in New York where they required you send in a self-addressed stamped envelope and wait to see if you won the right to buy tickets? They were hoping people would forget about the 40,000 or so uncanceled stamps left over by the people who didn't win.

Opening night has been moved from July 8th to July 13th now. And shows scheduled for July 10, 12 & 14 will instead be held March 2010.

Perhaps I should have said every real music lover has at some point been a Michael Jackson fan. He is example of "Love the art, not the artist". Whatever you think of Jackson as a person (I personally believe he is at least in part a result of extremely rotten parenting) a music lover cannot deny that he has: 1) Made some great music, including writing and composing, something many who are simply performers never did/do 2) Influenced music like few have 3) Entertained the world at an iconic level few have 4) has a lean patented

Jackson will forever have a place in history both as legendary musician/entertainer and legendary quack. Since people are willing to pay to see both, I'm not surprised he can still sell tickets. Now I'm prepared to get attacked by people that claim to be real music lovers but didn't ever like Jackson. Fine. I define a music lover as someone who can appreciate music from any genre, whether it the genre(s) you prefer or not. If you can recognize good songs when you hear them, I hold that you have liked at least one song in your lifetime to which Jackson contributed. He was extremely talented.

Sorry, but what you are stating is an opinion. Just because a "music lover" doesn't like Michael Jackson...either before or after the freak show started...in no way means that person isn't a music lover.

The link above is a classic Gristle song, so I firmly expect for you to listen to it frequently so you may continue your status as a music lover.

That song would be perfect as background music in a Rob Zombie movie. But no, I didn't care for it. I don't even know what I would classify it as. I'm not saying you have to like everything, but you should be able to find something in every genre that is, at a composition level, good. Many good songs have sat dormant for years until someone else came along, reworked the arrangement and performed it better.

As for "gangsta rap," it is generally not my cup of tea, but Dr. Dre made some fantastic stuff and had an incredible influence on the direction of music in general. Also, the collaboration of Public Enemy working with Anthrax to redo Bring the Noise influenced and helped to give birth to a whole new style of music.

Sometimes you can surprise yourself by listening to some type of music you've never given a chance and you'll find something you never knew you would like. Years ago, I initially dismissed bands like Nine Inch Nails, Iron Maiden, and N.W.A. due to the marketing and audience associated with each. I found later they all had some remarkable music.

The point is that it is BS to say that someone isn't a real music lover because they don't like my favorite artist. I like MJ's singing, but I'm not going to belittle someone who disagrees with me.

Chad, you make the mistake of equating "appreciation" and "love." One can appriciate the contributions one has made without even so much as liking any of them.

I dislike about 95% of Jazz and any real music lover LOVES Jazz...or so I'm told. I do appreciate Jazz and respect that MANY folks consider it to be THE form of music. I'm okay with that.

I perfer Rock and R&B mostly. However I do like others, particularly on a selective basis.

I think most will indeed agree that MJ has contributed a lot to POP music though you will find many of those same people do not like his musical style. They are not denying that he was/is great, just that they don't care for his music. MJ, in his price, was definitely an entertainer and that is a matter of historical fact...it also doesn't mean a "real music lover" has to love HIS music or style.

Hell, I'd go to a Michael Jackson concert for as little as one grand.

Nobody loves EVERY kind of music. However, many people can recognize talent. There are plenty of music lovers, for example, who would say that any music that isn't classical is crap. In my case, I hate almost all rap music, but I can tell that Eminem is a good rapper even though I don't like his music. I'm not into alterna-rock either, but Nirvana was a helluva talented band. I'm also not a country fan, but I know a good voice when I hear one.

Steve - I think you're saying it better than I did. That's what I meant. I haven't been a fan of MJ since I was a young teen, but I now appreciate and applaud his contributions to musical history.
