'My Little Margie' dies.

LOS ANGELES – Gale Storm, whose wholesome appearance and perky personality made her one of early television's biggest stars on "My Little Margie" and "The Gale Storm Show," has died at age 87.

Storm, who had been in failing health in recent years, died Saturday at a convalescent hospital in Danville, said her son, Peter Bonnell.

Before landing the starring role in "My Little Margie" in 1952, Storm appeared in numerous B movies opposite such stars as Roy Rogers, Eddie Albert and Jackie Cooper. After her last TV series, "The Gale Storm Show," ended in 1960 she went on to a successful singing career while continuing to make occasional TV appearances.

Guess it depends on where you live - here in Chicago she would be #6 - John Callaway died the same day as Ed McMahon, he was a pretty well known broadcaster in Chicagoland.

I think perhaps we should redefine what qualifies as "celebrity". I think the first rule should be if I have heard of them or not.

Gale Storm had made some albums as well in the mid 50's . She was basically on the same platform as Rosemary Clooney with her style of music.

I think the real measure of their celebrity status is if I both hear about their death and remember it 20 minutes later. After all, I am part of the current generation of people without attention spans.

Joe, I'd go along with that if I could have my input, too. But, then, that would knock out 90% of today's "celebrities".
