I wasn't too impressed with 2009 for films apart from Inglourious Basterds (my favourite), The Hangover, and Star Trek....but I'm really looking forward to watching and presenting these movies this year...(in order of excitement)

1. Toy Story 3
2. Iron Man 2
3. Sex and the City 2 (come on I am a girl)
4. Clash of the Titans
5. The A-Team
6. Robin Hood
7. Alice in Wonderland
8. Up in the Air
9. Wall Street 2
10.Shrek Forever After

What are you all looking forward to seeing?

Iron man 2 is on the top of my list most definitely. I have a new-found respect for mr. Downey Jr. ever since Kiss kiss bang bang came out. (Holmes opens in two weeks here in Finland, very much looking forward to that).

I had the impression they're going to make Toy Story 1 & 2 available in 3D shortly before the third part, I do hope that's not just the US. The kids will love that.

Just saw the trailer for Clash of the titans and well, I'm blown away. That will either be... as great as Avatar for any fantasy and mythology-obsessed film fanatic or suck like nothing before. On a side note, I did finally see Avatar last night (work work work, didn't have the chance to see it before, only the people going to see it) and not only was the theater packed for the third weekend in a row [beer]

the movie was actually just as good as I expected. Yay!

..Just hope that "IronMan 2" doesn't go stupid as most sequels do..but "Shrek Forever" might just be the winning ticket for this year.

It has a good original twist to this one along with it being in 3D. Disney's "ToyStory3" might be the "sleeper hit" if Pixar can keep that tradition going.

True, 2010 looks like a decent banner year for "Hollyrock", DCI 3D and now the up and coming TECH 3D film version.

The oft-delayed "Wolf Man" is what I am most anxious to see. I am concerned about the score being intrusive though since Danny Elfman left the project and the Tangerine Dream guy came on. Maybe there will be an "international version" with a REAL score like there was when he did "Legend".

Remakes which may be worth a look:

Alice in Wonderland
Clash of the Titans
A Nightmare on Elm Street

Jackie Earle Haley stole much of Watchmen, so he's an interesting choice for the role of Freddy Krueger. The Oscar nominated actor probably has far better skills than Robert Englund, but Englund still forged the role. This remake will have to be really great to even stand up to the original movie. The original 80's movie had one key thing on its side: it was new. A movie can be new only once.

Mark I am a fan of the game that's why I want to see it.

I agree on the Clash of The Titans. I remember the original was good as a film although acting sucked.

Machete, the "You just fucked with the wrong Mexican" fake trailer from Grindhouse, had better kick all kinds of ass.

Robert DeNiro AND Steven Seagal are in it, for crying out loud!

Then there's Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter, of course.

I saw Tron in its original theatrical release and can't remember a thing about it, so I'm hoping for a Blu-ray release in advance of the new movie.

As poor a showing as we've seen dollar wise in the US, I'm surprised to even see "Up In The Air" on anybody's top 10 list. It may do better for you in New Zealand, though.

$70m so far and a $2000+ per screen average on its eighth weekend of release is called a 'poor showing'? It's no mega-blockbuster, sure, but it has earned more than double its production budget in the States alone.

Also, top ten lists generally aren't based on box office! ;-)

I guess I went at this top ten thing a little backwards... A better way of expressing my thought would have been "Up In The Air" wouldn't appear on my top ten list. As far as referring to boxoffice receipts, they tend to reflect the mood of the country toward a film; therefore, word must be getting around because it would appear the mood for "Up In The Air" is trending downward significantly. Compared with say "Avatar" at 551.7 mil, "The Book of Eli" 60.7 mil in only two weeks, "Sherlock Holmes" 191.1 mil in 5 weeks and even "Alvin and the Chipmonks" 204.1 mil in 5 weeks... the boxoffice receipts indicate, at least in my way of thinking, the level of popularity of various films among the theatre patrons. That being said, it would appear "Up In The Air" wasn't magnanimously popular, that being reflected in the drop off of current ticket sales... fewer people are willing fork over ten dollars for a ticket to see it. As with various film critics, this is just my humble opinion (two thumbs down) and it goes no further than that.

Can anyone give me any hope in this thread? Feel free to include 2011 or beyond.

I'm sure I'll take my daughters to Tangled, but for the first time in three decades I can honestly say there isn't a single film on the horizon that I'm excited about.

The Ward? I love old-school Carpenter, but I'll be very surprised if this isn't terrible.
Harry Potter? Ok, I can appreciate that folks love these, but never got into them myself.
Tron? Sorry, in any year starting with a 2, I can't quite run with the idea that computer programs might be represented by microscopic humanoids fighting each other.
Titanic 2012 re-issue? Well, it's Cameron's 2nd weakest film... but it was a pretty good ride. Yeah, I'll go see that again... Oh, wait, I have to wear dark glasses? Nevermind.

Someone please offer a glimmer of hope for this grumpy old former film-goer...

The Social Network looks very promising. They used that choir version of Radiohead's Creep in the trailer and that perked up my ears. Fincher movies are usually terrific, so I'm very optimistic.

Oh c’mon, there’s some stuff coming. Never Let Me Go is getting great word of mouth prior to its opening on the 17th, as is the really messed-up sounding Black Swan for 12/3. More exploitably, Let Me In, the American version of the most talked about vampire movie in a long time (that doesn’t have “Twlight” in its title) looks like a sure winner. Then there’s the Spam-in-a-can Halloween movies Buried and Devil, along with Paranormal Activity 2, Monsters, and Skyline, which looks kind of fun. For the kids there’s Megamind. And then Tron Legacy, and the Coen Brothers take on True Grit, which I can’t personally wait to see. There’s also The Green Hornet on 1/14, but who knows about that one.

So far, much of this year has been a wash as far as watching new movies that are good are concerned. Inception was the best movie I watched this Summer. However, I didn't see very many movies this Summer.

Toy Story 3 is the only movie I watched multiple times this Summer, once in RealD here in Lawton at the Carmike 8 and then in Dolby 3D (and Dolby Surround 7.1) at the Moore Warren 14.

I wish I had gotten off my dead ass long enough to see Kick Ass while it was in theatrical release. I took it for granted the movie would stay around for a while. Unfortunately it came and went very fast here in Lawton. It's a controversial movie, but ballsy for showing graphically violent action involving a 12 year old girl. Most Americans aren't familiar with shows like Gunslinger Girl.

Hopefully the remainder of 2010 will redeem itself for quality movies. I say hopefully but there may not be a whole lot of hope. Outside of Tron Legacy and the first part of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows saga I really don't know what's coming out at the theaters soon.

Add another vote here for "True Grit." I was against this on principle at first -- I mean, how do you remake a John Wayne movie, especially one for which he won the Oscar?

But then I heard Jeff Bridges was going to be in it, and the Coen Brothers are making it, so I'm now anxious for it. It's also great that they have a real actor (Matt Damon) to play LaBoeuf this time; Glen Campbell was pretty weak in the original. (I like the song though.)
