A reporter and photographer (whose names escaped me) from the New York Times travelled to the Roxy Theater in Langdon, ND tonight researching a story about the prevalence of community owned theaters in Rural North Dakota. They stuck around for a couple hours interviewing my staff and me and talking to many of the patrons as they arrived for "Marmaduke"

Their main thesis seamed to be wondering "How a small theater remains relevant in the age of Netflix and Video on Demand." They were also quite interested in the history of the theater.

Hopefully you can post a link to that story when they print it.

They should do a tour of the country and profile all the Roxy Theatres. "Roxy of the Week." Sounds like a Pulitzer prize winning series! [Big Grin]

I think there are at least 3 or 4 just in Montana.

I was given a book by my good friend (now deceased) called "The Best Remaining Seats" which covered the golden age of cinema and featured a lot of info on "Roxy" himself and how he helped to save many theatres that were struggling.

Best of all they show and tell a lot about the huge, famous flagship Roxy Theatre that was in New York.

Fantastic book and a MUST-READ for anyone in this biz!!

Apparently a few do read the Times. I've gotten several phone calls today from individuals interested in how we are doing things at our theater, and looking for pointers on how to "revive" their old theater

Well, the League of Historic American Theatres is next week in San Antonio and there are lots of tips about reviving old theatres. Not all of us LHAT members run palaces, and we've been pushing harder every year to get more movies into old movie theatres.
