I've heard that a film version of "The Office" is in the works. Haven't heard if Steve Carell would be in it or not, but on the surface it seems like a good idea for the big screen treatment since it's not a conventional sitcom (no audience, no laugh track).

What's the consensus here? Or does anyone care?

I think they did already...I think it was called "Office Space". I've seen maybe one episode, but that's what the show reminded me of.

He's already announced he's leaving the show after this season btw.

I know, that's why I'm wondering whether he'd be in a movie version.

I guess they could do a story line where he gets promoted or fired or killed or something.

Jeremy - "Office Space" was totally different. It was a Mike Judge effort, where "The Office" is a Ricky Gervais thing.

I love The Office. It's about the only thing on TV worth watching besides Wipeout. It won't be the same without Steve though.

If you're a fan of The Office, never watch the original, British version. It will make you lose a lot of respect for the American version, since the general storyline and much of the character development is identical.

Ricky Gervais is one of the best comics currently going. If he was involved in making a movie, it would be really good. His own movies are funny and they don't have nearly the cast. If they merely gave him Executive Producer credit and did the whole thing without him, it might be a giant disappointment. The jokes on the office are quick and developed and fit for a 25 minute program. I'm not sure it would be a good idea to do an "Office goes to Disneyland" type deal, although it worked for Reno 911, so maybe?
