Let's list our favorite movies with shocker endings, but I would suggest if you want to describe the ending itself, tag it with spoiler tags so people who haven't seen the movie don't have it ruined for them.

My favorite: "Carrie" (the original of course)

The one girl who was nice to Carrie throughout the movie arrives at her imploded house to place a bouquet, and juse when she's laying it down, Carrie's hand comes bursting out of the ground and grabs the nice girl's hand. With a great "sting" music track of course.

I remember running this show. Our theatre has a balcony and every night when that ending happened, the whole booth vibrated from people jumping back in their seats. One of the best horror-movie endings ever, IMHO.

I remember going to a Yojimbo/Sanjuro double feature at the Biograph in DC on New Year's day. The house was full. Half of the audience had clearly seen the movie before, because you could feel them tense up as the scene approached. The other half practically jumped at the moment.

Legend is the two actors were not aware of what the effect would be either, and from the looks on their faces, the legend is true.

Quick tip: How to use spoiler tags:

Type the word "spoiler" but enclosed in [ ] brackets instead of quotes.

Then type your desired text.

Then type the world "/spoiler" enclosed in brackets.

Everything between the bracketed tags will be hidden.

The good guy doesn't get the girl after all at the end. The flow of the movie has you thinking it is going for a corny ending, then BAM. you see the girl hugging and kissing her ex who dumped her ass when she got pregnant. The good guy drives away in tears. Heh heh.

Well, when it first came out, The Crying Game had that big surprise element, though I think that by now, the cat is out of the bag on that big twist.

The Sixth Sense is another fave of mine. Probably my favorite non-Die Hard Bruce Willis movie. I guess everyone knows the "secret" in that one too.

I remember that the audience for the 9 o'clock show was unable to enter the auditorium during the last reel of the 7 o'clock showing of "Psycho"!

"No one will be seated during the last 10 minutes of this film." That was in the paper and on posters in the lobby. Those waiting in the lobby heard the screams from the house and became even more interested in the film.

Psycho was not one of Alfred's cliff hanging endings.
