I'm about to get a new pickup (Ford Ranger) and am debating on whether to get the 4.10 rear axle or the 3.73. My previous truck, also a Ranger, had the 4.10 but I figure I will get better gas mileage with the 3.73. I don't do any towing or off-roading, just "light" hauling (theatre related stuff mostly). 3.73 is somewhat cheaper, too.

So my question is, will I notice a huge difference in everyday driving by changing to the 3.73?

Since you're planning to use it as a light duty truck I would go with the 3.73.

The 3.73 rear should do you just fine based on your intended use.
