This forum needs an OFFICIAL place where we can discuss and make fun of the photos and whatnot which are leaked from the movie. I shall begin. This thread is OFFICIAL.

She looks like a clown with that ultra-red lipstick. She is so miscast. Also, she makes no attempt to cover her identity. Also sad is the return of the Bat-Motorcycle. I am assuming that it will get damaged in this movie and turn into a Bat-unicycle.

The forum is not powerful enough to embed this image, so you must click here.
(Looks like a black-and-white Green Lantern riding that thing)

I am amazed that the production team lets so many people get close enough to grab images and vids like some of these. They are not very flattering.

Why is F-T not requiring me to ingest a KDM so I can look at the pictures?

If you take a look at the video that Joe linked to, which can be seen much better here , you'll see Hathaway's stunt double crashing into an IMAX 15perf/65mm camera.

Interesting that at a time when the majority of IMAX theaters are digital, more than half of this film is being shot with large format film stock on what looks to be MSM (Marty and Barbara Mueller) designed cameras.

The way she's riding the motorcycle in that clip makes it look like the world's largest and most mobile sex toy.

I thought they were shooting the entire thing in IMAX. I wonder if there will be many (if any) real IMAXes left in the world to see it in. There are no real IMAX locations here in Denver any more.

I wonder why they take so much care to cover the stunt-double's head yet they allow footage like this to be shot and leaked.

Joe, is the Colorado Center no longer using film in its Imax house?

Officially, I thought the Dark Knight Rises trailer was terrible. I have a friend who is a real Bat-fan and he thought it was disappointing, too.

And, why are they still sending out KDMs for the "encrypted" version of that trailer when the un-encrypted version is readily available on Trailmix?

I'll withhold my judgment about the movie and the casting of Anne Hathaway until I see the show.

While it's great Christopher Nolan is shooting a great deal of the movie in 15/65mm the effort will be wasted without any 15/70mm equipped IMAX theaters. One of the really funny things is a regular movie theater equipped with 4K digital projection will probably show a significantly more detailed image than IMAX Digital shows. Of course this hinges on whether Warner Bros. willy pay for a 4K or higher resolution digital intermediate instead of the default 2K standard.

I assume Cinemark has removed the 15/70 projectors from all of their IMAX theaters.

As far as I've seen, there are no more Cinemark 15/70 houses. The only 15/70 in DFW I'm aware of is Colleyville Cinema Grill

That's a fairly new theater isn't it? Are you sure it is equipped for 15/70 film? I figured it was another digital installation.

Nope. Even the museum is digital now.

A dinner theater with 15/70 IMAX? That's totally overkill.

Are there any 15/70 multiplex locations left? Lincoln Square would be. What about National Amusements? They don't have the big screen, but I haven't heard they have put in digital.

Back to BATMAN, here are a couple of shots of the new Batwing. Very impressive: Here and Here.

According to the theater's web site the IMAX auditorium doesn't have dining service. I would still be surprised if it is film-based (and remains that way up to the release of [i]The Dark Knight Rises{/i]. If it is film-based it would be the only true IMAX venue I would have any chance of visiting. All the others in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado I've visited previously have gone digital.

Maybe you should call and ask them.

Posted by Frank Angel (Member # 248) on 08-14-2011, 07:07 PM:

Yah, just try that -- try calling and asking if they are still running film and if the screen is still 6 stories high and listen to them hem and haw before they put you on indefinate Hold; they are not at all forth-coming with that information.

Evidently they are a little sensitive about their digital conversions -- perhaps after the flack they got when people first discovered that IMAX doesn't really mean Big Screen any more, just the same Big Screen price, they'd rather just avoid discussing what is actually in the booth or the size of the screen altogether.

I called them and they told me it was still film.

I didn't have that same luck a few months ago when I call the Lincoln Square IMAX, NYC.

The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI still had 15/70 when I was there in April: saw it with my own eyes. I hope it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

They all can't have converted yet. But by the time this movie comes out, I think 15/70 film will be VERY difficult to find.

If I were Nolan I would be pretty pissed off. Hell, smash ALL of the IMAX cameras! Who needs them now?!

It's all about cutting costs and making investors happy. That's what's wrong with so many big businesses. Too many are more concerned about selling their stock at ever inflated prices rather than paying attention to their fundamental mission: selling a good quality product or service to consumers.

IMAX Digital is nothing but a cost-cutting DOWNGRADE from 15-perf 70mm projection. I have little if any desire to pay the very high premium to watch a movie in an IMAX Digital theater. The 2K projection doesn't show more detail than I can see in a regular d-cinema equipped theater. The only real benefit IMAX Digital theaters provide is a brighter digital 3D picture. That's it.

I might be willing to drive 100 or 200 miles to see a quality 15/70 show. I'm not driving a far distance to see something in ordinary 2K quality.

The Sacramento Esquire IMAX is still 15/70 as of 4 weeks ago.

Joe, I hadn't seen your post and called them myself a moment ago. The manager told me that they finished the removal of the 15/70 equipment and the install of the digital IMAX today.

I had no idea the switchover from 15/70 to IMAX digital was so far advanced in the States. Here in the UK, what I think is the first conversion has been announced. The Birmingham IMAX is switching to a non-IMAX digital projector but retaining their 70-foot screen. Apparently they had a contract with IMAX that was renewable every ten years and the first ten years is up. The only time they made any money in that ten years was with Avatar.

As for The Dark Knight Rises, I'm hopeful that the BFI IMAX in London will still have 15/70 when it's released.

You'll find no love for film here. We hate it. It costs more money, so it cannot be tolerated. We need to do our best to get the money to those who rightfully deserve it more than anyone: the studios.

Well I can guarantee that we will be playing this is glorious 15/70 . And anyone of you is welcome to come check it out and you can even get a tour if you feel so inclined. I'm really looking forward to this film, I think its going to be good.

I really don't think you can take these pictures with more then a grain of salt. I think most of it looks good, but you really don't know the contexts of them.

Its funny, IMAX was proud of the camera being destroyed. It was on their twitter feed and I got an email from a friend there that told me to go look for the video.

So is that the same model camera that they destroyed in Dark Knight? They talk about it on the blu-ray and mention that there were only four in existence and now there are three. Does this mean that now there are only two left?

FWIW, I believe the IMAX at the Edwards multiplex on the I-10 in Houston is still 15/70. At least it was when I last visited a couple of months back, and they still haven't scheduled any digital-only titles.

Bit of a hike from Oklahoma though.

I believe the MSM 9802 wrecked during the last film was repaired by Mike Hendricks at IMAX is now fully operational.

As far as Dark Knight accidents go, there was another one recently when the Batwing hit a sign which ripped off part of its wing .

The LF Examiner has been keeping their lists pretty up to date on what theaters are transitioning to digital and what are still 1570.

While seeing it in 15/70 would be awesome, I wonder how it will be edited... if it's just done at a 2 or 4k rez, wouldn't it be pointless to see it on film since it's a step down, so to say?

Posted by Bobby Henderson (Member # 840) on 08-16-2011, 05:54 PM:

I'm not entirely certain, but I thought The Dark Knight had much of its 35mm and IMAX footage processed via the old school analog methods (no digital intermediate for the whole movie). The IMAX stuff for CGI use was scanned at 8K resolution by MPI.

I'm pretty sure that's correct. I recall reading somewhere that Nolan edited on film and had trouble finding a lab that remembered how to do the processing. Presumably the 35mm footage was scanned at 4K for the IMAX prints. I imagine he'll be doing it old school again for The Dark Knight Rises.
