OK,so I unearthed some really old video that some friends and I made in the early 80s. We were doing a take-off on the police shows of the 70s. It's very loosely based on "Dragnet" but there are also touches of Adam-12, CHIPS and other shows like that in there.

I'm wanting to edit this into a watchable form and add music to the various scenes. I'm looking for some ideas for songs to use. Instrumentals only, please. The scenes I want to score are:

- a chase scene
- a "murder discovery" scene
- a short "shootout" scene at the end
- an ending tune

Any recommendations would be appreciated. I was thinking of using part of the Commodores' "Machine Gun" for the chase scene.

Search for KPM Production Music- you can audition a lot of their stuff from the 60s and 70s on Spotify and other music services.

Listen to the Ennio Morricone score from Brian DePalma's THE UNTOUCHABLES. Definitely some good potential for your "chase" scene(s) there.

For a good "mystery" theme, there's a track on the SOMEWHERE IN TIME soundtrack that might work, depending on your movie (and what music you choose for the other scenes). The track in question is from the scene where 'Michael' goes looking for the old guest registers and discovers that he was there in the past.

You can license it from http://www.apmmusic.com/ -- prices are actually pretty reasonable for limited distribution and start at around $75.

Goto the "myKPM" tab in the main site to see the tonnage of music selection ... where I found Keith Mansfield "Funky Fanfare" - the classic tune on those NSS "Feature Presentation" tags of the 1970's

For the dragnet era stuff, you need libraries a bit earlier than the ultra-popular KPM 1000 series; Carlin (Capitol HiQ), Chappell, Associated etc...

If it's supposed to be something funny, the Theme from "Dragnet '88" by Art of Noise would be appropriate.

The "Korben Dallas" theme from the movie, "The Fifth Elemenet" would be another techno track that could be appropriate.

Anything from the "Get Shorty" soundtrack.

Ditto for the "Pulp Fiction" soundtrack.

Soundtrack from "The Sting." ("The Entertainer" or "Solace.")

"Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed.

"In the Air Tonight" by Phil Colins.

"I Am the Slime" by Frank Zappa. (Get past the funky guitar intro.)

"Sleepless" by King Krimson. (Makes great chase music.")

"Suck on the Juggular" by the Rolling Stones.

Theme from "The Saint." (The T.V. series starring Roger Moore.)

Theme from "Peter Gunn."

The videos in question were shot in '82 so I'm trying not to use anything newer than that.

Any of the soundtrack music for Cowboy Bebop by Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts. Great horn band jazz and ska with some great comical chase tracks. Do a YouTube search for their tracks Tank! (the series opening theme), Bad Dog No Biscuit, What Planet is This? (chases), and The Real Folk Blues (English version - the series closing theme). Recorded in the late '90s but the music is a throwback with a '60s/'70s feel and some of the tightest horn charts you'll ever hear.
