I still have about 10 movies to see that could replace some of these.

If I listed movies I watched in 2011, the Swedish version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo would be #1.

Girl With The Dragon Tatoo (American Version)
Drive Angry (This year's guilty pleasure!)
Captain America
Ides of March
The Debt
The Perfect Host

Best would be between Midnight in Paris and Hugo.

My top ten list can be divided into two parts: 1 - 5 are movies I really liked, while 6 - 10 are movies that were pretty good but I don't really care if I ever see them again.

I realize my #1 was a 2010 film but I didn't see it until 2011.

1 True Grit
2 Crazy Stupid Love
3 Water For Elephants
4 Rango
5 The King's Speech
6 Rio (probably wouldn't have made this list if not for the music -- I'm a Sergio Mendes fan)
7 Puss in Boots
8 Fast Five
9 Cars 2
10 Courageous

I don't think I watched enough movies made in 2011 to come up with a legitimate top ten list.

I rented a pretty decent number of movies on Blu-ray this year, but bought very few. Come to think of it none of the movies I bought on Blu-ray were released in 2011. Of the movies I rented not many made me wish I had seen them at the theater.

Anyway, I liked Crazy Stupid Love, Rango and Hanna. Uh, well there's three.

Where do you rent from? Blockbuster? We have almost no real rental stores in Ontario anymore, no more Blockbuster in Canada and very few kiosks. Its really difficult to rent a movie from a store.

We have a few different video stores in town. I mainly rent from Hastings Books Music & Video. They have a much better selection of movies than I can find in some Red Box or Blockbuster vending machine.

But I'm in a small market, so things like My Week With Marilyn and The Descendants will have to wait. Like Black Swan and True Grit were 2011 movies for me.

Due to the decreasing level of interest in the current production, I only saw 9 films at theaters this year. Two of them from 2010 but I only saw them in January 2011. I spent more time this year watching films at home, with more satisfaction, especially classic films from Roger Corman, Hitchcock, Woody Allen, Polanski and Spielberg.

Anyway, by order of preference:

1- Midnight in Paris
2- Habemus papam
3- Tintin (deliberately seen in 2D)
I was anxious to see how Spielberg would have adapted this monument of my country's culture and I must say I loved it. Spielberg just got it right on all aspects and made the best adaptation of Tintin ever.
4- Black swan
5- The King's speech (the Oscar should have gone to Geoffrey Rush instead)
6- Melancholia
7- Super 8 (not interesting but well done and it reminded me of my teenage years of Super 8 filmmaking)
8- Uwiklanie (a Polish film, quite insignificant but well done and pleasant to watch)
9- The debt (I really didn't like it, one of the most boring films I ever saw)
