Donna Summer has died at 63. I have a mixed admiration for her music....she released, in my opinion, one of the worst singles of the 1970s (Love to Love You Baby) as well as several of the best (Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, I Feel Love).

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – TMZ.com is reporting that singer Donna Summer has died after a battle with cancer. TMZ reports Summer was in Florida at the time of her death. She was 63-years-old.

She performed in South Florida at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood in August of 2010 following a sellout show in 2009.

Born Donna Gaines, the Boston native developed an early interest in music. Summer, known as the Queen of Disco, was a 5-time Grammy winner who shot to superstardom in the ’70s with iconic hits like “Last Dance,” “Hot Stuff” and “Bad Girls.” She continued her dominance in the ’80s with “She Works Hard for the Money” and “This Time I Know It’s for Real.”

Summer holds the record for most consecutive double albums to hit #1 on the Billboard charts (three) and first female to have four #1 singles in a 12- month period; three as a solo artist and one as a duo with Barbra Streisand. She won 6 American Music Awards and 11 gold albums. It is estimated that Donna Summer has sold more than 130 million records worldwide.

Summer married Brooklyn Dreams singer Bruce Sudano in 1980. They had two daughters together.

One of the first songs I ever danced to was "Last Dance." You shoulda seen it! [Eek!]

I played her music "on the air" during my broadcasting career. At least you could understand what she was singing. Many of today's artists (?) could take a hint from her music. She'll be missed.

I ran "TGIF" (Thank GOD it's Friday) in 1978 at a drive-in (old Starlite Drive-In in Pocatello, ID) for two weeks.

R.I.P .. the "Queen of Disco". Another great voice leaving us.

Hell yeah, he was one of the coolest cats. And, I thought he was hilarious in "The Blues Brothers."

Unfortunately, well-known people are dying too fast to keep up with sometimes it seems.
