Thanks Paul for the info. Maybe they can keep the temp screen in place or go all out and put in a 55 foot curved screen wall to wall? Move the side exits or do what they can to enlarge their small past screen size. I hope they have good surround speakers to turn up with these classic 70mm films.

From the link Paul provided, the Music Box either has 16 screens all equipped for 70mm, or they have 16 70mm projectors all running at the same time running different movies on the same screen.

Sad that seems to represent just about the entire available 70mm catalog of titles.

For anyone in the know, if there are other titles available, are they not being booked into the various 70mm festivals due to overly high rental rates? (I'm talking US specifically here.)

Shipping costs are very high for 70mm prints.

There are some 35 to 70 blow jobs from the 1980s that the studios still have. I showed such a print of Silverado last night - very grainy and had been murdered by Century JJ scratching (through every last frame of all 7 reels - grrrr), but the mag A-type sounded crisp and detailed, as you'd expect.

We've played blow job prints of The Untouchables (so-so), Ghostbusters (worn out), and Malcolm X (looked great - photographically, better than you'd expect from a 35mm 1.85 source and print in pristine condition) in the recent past, too.

Still, these prints are generally not a good showcase for what the format can do. Last night's certainly wasn't.

The Academy has a beautiful print of Grand Prix, but the rental logistics I'm unsure of.
