Last weekend, I got into a discussion over which film was the first to have a scene after the end credits. The earliest we could come up with was Masters Of The Universe from 1987.

I am looking for any earlier titles that anyone can think of.

Looking for titles with actual brief scenes, like many Marvel movies do, not text announcing the next in the series or footage from the next film.

Ferris Bueller did it in 1986. A search through IMDB for "crazy credits" will probably find earlier examples.

I assume that you are not talking about the various out-take type scenes either (numerous movies and a fair number of Burt Reynolds movies did that).

I remember Young Sherlock Holmes (1985).
Me and my friend are the only ones who saw the end, as all other spectators had left the theater (a 600-seater) by the times credits ended. None of them even suspected that there was still something important to see, despite the fact that action kept taking place in the background.

My earliest recollection is Young Sherlock Holmes as well. It had me hooked on watching through the credits ever since!

Airplane! did it for me, always hoping for an egg, although now I mostly watch the crawl to see if friends worked on the film and to listen to some really interesting scores on a good theatre sound systems.

There's a BIG surprise at the end of SPLIT the new Shyamalan -- his ever repeating attempt to get back his 6th SENSE success, but the movie put me half to sleep (the been there...seen that syndrome) so I can't recall if it was after the credits or just before them or maybe even after a few had already run. Where ever it comes in, it's the best thing in the movie -- a real tickle in the sides fun gem.

Just like the only thing in all of INDEPENDENCE DAY Regurgitation was when Brent Spinner (known by everyone on the planet as simply Data) says to the injured soldier, "Come on, I've got to get you to SickBay." After that, you might as well go home.
