The playground concept looks ridiculous. I can just imagine kids horsing around on those pieces of playground equipment on the right end of the auditorium and then falling down the stairs when a stunt goes wrong. Attorneys must be salivating over the prospects. Even if the kids aren't getting hurt it looks like it would be a noisy distraction from what's playing on the screen.

I think it's a cultural thing. While something like that would never work here, I can see where it would be a big attraction in some societies. The kids play in the corner, the adults can watch the movie and everyone's entertained.

I think this is a great idea. Keep all the kids in there so I can go to a different "not kid friendly" auditorium and not have my movie disrupted.

What about noise? Kids yelling and screaming while they play is not exactly what you want to hear, no matter how action packed the movie might be.

Well I assume the safety angle, including the stairs and concrete floors, has been thought of. No company is THAT stupid. They could have directional lighting in the playground area that would not intrude too much on the seating area. But what about the noise? Kids running back and forth from the seats to the playground area, crying, screaming?

I guess it's fine for one of those "moms with babies" screenings but for a mainstream showing of a regular movie? Ugh.

Funny, when I was a kid and my folks took us to the movies, we were taught how to siddown and shuddup because IT'S A MOVIE THEATER AND THAT'S HOW YOU BEHAVE IN A MOVIE THEATER.

This is just another example of people wanting to coddle kids, give them any little thing their heart desires, and the other people in the room don't count at all.

Since it is not something I go to, just curious to know if people now behave in church like they do in movie theaters? Talking, texting, letting the kids run around? Is it the new normal?

This may not be the best idea, but it would be silly to knock cinepolis as they are the largest theatre chain in Mexico and their theatres are well run from the ones i've been to.

It's weird that hte LAtimes article didn't mention it but they will only allow kids to play in the jungle gym before the movie starts and 15 minutes after the movie ends, during the actual movie everyone will have to be in their seats. It is also only one auditorium in each of the two US test sites they have in California. I don't see an issue with it, let the kids get the energy out before the film and the parents can promise them that they can play after the film if they behave? True its not the "typical" movie experience but I doubt any of us are going to be going to this auditorium anyway, we're not really the target market..

Well hell, if they'd have put that in the article, the idea makes a lot more sense and would stop virtually all the problems. Still, I don't think it's worth five hundred grand to do it....I could put that money in the bank and have a few new digital projectors when needed.

Around here, people are still respectful in church. You might hear a cellphone ring now and then, but it's usually shut down without being answered, or the person will quickly exit to talk. The big thing that's changed is clothing...used to be people would wear their "Sunday best," now you see just about any kind of attire in church. (I'm Catholic.)

Paying for an extra ticket for the kid is cheaper than paying a babysitter.
