Some complaints are timeless. I'm carrying out research on the Cinesphere, the world's first permanent IMAX theatre here in Toronto and came across this wonderful complaint from 1975.

I believe the text reads:

quote:
"After finally visiting Ontario Place last week, I wish to draw to your attention a flaw which I believe medically important.

In Cinesphere, the “66 speakers” of sound accompanying the film “Energy” are driven at a decibel level which is both uncomfortable and distracting, it is louder than industrial exposure limits, I believe by a wide margin.

Would you ask the appropriate Dept. of Health people to monitor this production? A few ears might well be saved."

The first paragraph from the reply letter reads:

quote:
"While we agree that there are moments in the film where the level of sound effects may appear to be high, it is so as a direct result of contrast and we do not agree that it is beyond acceptable limits."

The rest of the reply letter reads:

quote:
"Therefore, we suggest that you take your "medically important" opinion and place it in a location often reserved for colon examinations." Sincerely, IMAX
