The last time Kinepolis (Belgium) decided to do a large acquisition in the form of CinemaxX (Germany), it didn't really end well (for both of them).

It will be interesting to see if Landmark will end up in uniform corporate Kinepolis "grey-ness" with humongous unmasked screens in front of similarly huge, undressed, bland rectangular boxes.

This means that CP is about to take a giant tank. Landmark is nothing more than a front for CP - or rather the money backing CP. Landmark was a convenient tool for CP to pick up AMC's that they could not take by CB rules. Desperate play to raise capital by selling off Landmark.
If CP implodes the distributors will be to blame for the subsidizing of the non-competitive practices of the oligarchs behind the monopoly of Canadian exhibition - that has lead to the collapse of the Canadian cinema market.

Landmark just happens to own a little 5-plex near where we spend the off-season in BC. Sort of clean-ish but broken concessions equipment and butter dispensers (and urinals) languish for years on end. They also appear not to receive (or care) about efficient service, let alone any particular strategy or training from what I can see. A couple dozen patrons at the counter grind things to near gridlock with 8 staff working 5 tills which causes most other would-be customers to walk on by. Dumpy little town of 20,000, don't imagine either the old or new company is overly aware they own it.
