The French Dispatch (2021)(REQUEST)

[Aaron Garman]

Mainly interested in the aspect ratio and container info. Looks like it's got alternating ratios.

4k Flat Container with 1.37 und 2.39 scenes inside. Sound 5.1 only.

So there's pillar-boxing for the 1.37 scenes, and letter-boxing for the 2.35 scenes? Not a good way to shoot a film.

[Mihkel Salk]

So the 2.39 scenes will be window-boxed when screened on a Scope-screen? Seems like a terrible choice.

[Martin McCaffery]

There is a scene where on screen writing goes over into the pillar boxing. It's as if he's taunting us.

Was quite similar with 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' by the same director. As long as these gimmicks occur only rarely with special arthouse releases, I don't mind.
