Dolby CP850 Urgent Power cycle this CP850 before proceeding

    Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with my Dolby CP850 cinema processor. The unit displays the following message on startup
To complete the upgrade, a system shutdown is required. Press 'Power' button on front panel and wait until unit powers down. Then press 'Power' again.
I’ve followed the instructions, but the system continues to show the same message and does not proceed with the upgrade. It seems to be stuck in a loop.

Has anyone encountered this before? If so, what steps did you take to resolve it? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance!

The only suggestion that springs to mind is that rather than soft power cycling it, using the button on the front panel as directed by the web UI, maybe try hard power cycling it: the procedure to which my father gave the politically incorrect nickname "German reboot," which consists of pulling the power cord out of the back of it (without bothering to do any of the shutdown formalities beforehand), waiting long enough for the power supply module to expire completely (say, 30 seconds), and then plugging it back in again? My only hesitation about recommending this is the risk that in its current state, the CP850 is rescuable using a method I don't know about, but that after a hard reboot, it might not be. If you'd prefer to be ultra cautious, maybe run this past Dolby first?

I've never had to do Leo's "German reboot" on a CP850, but I've had to use that procedure
occasionally on a Trinnov Ovation II on rare occasions when it would choke on a normal
power-up, or after executing a string of tightly spaced audio cues. (The Trinnov would
execute the commands, but the front display would perpetually display "Please Wait"
      .)
This was not a frequent problem. I think I've only had to do it 3 times in the past 4 years,
but completely removing power for 60 sec always fixed the problem.
