Uhm...

When I'll see a "Wanted - Rewards" poster here? [Smile]

Neumade I used was made in Japan. I don't know what to say, I was so happy to work with neumade but I'm now so happy to come back to CIR! If once I'll come to USA you will show to me a better maintained/well working Neumade!

bye

Newmade all the way. Having put up with a stong personally, yeah, they suck. Crappy tape holder, pins in the way of your thumb, and it leave the tape chads behind instead of punching them out.

I have to say that I had much more tape "debris" problem with Neumade than with CIRs.

Perhaps the quality of the tape can make the difference...

Does Neumade make a fox sprocket splicer; I am thinking the SS stands for Standard Sprockets (or if it were made in Germany, something more sinister) so I would imagine they also make or at least at one time made a 35CS, no?

Yah, love my Neumade. A good tool is like a good woman....(someone fill in the rest 'cause my lady is standing right next to me and I don't want to get hit in the head this early in the morning....besides, I really can't think of anything anyway).

Neumade made a Fox Hole splicer in the good old cement days. It was called something like NeuScope (sp?). I still have one of them in storage.

No splicer works good unless it is clean. Regular maintenance is a must for good splicer operation. There seems to be a big difference in the quality(or age?) of splicing and cue tape.

It was once explained to me that the CIR has the adjustable registration pins to allow for shrunken film stock. Is this infact the case?

I have a CIR and yes it does have adjustable pins on one side. There is a little knob that moves the set of pins ever so slightly.

I absolutely hate the CIR splicer! I think Anthony likes it because it was made in Italy or something. We had 4 of these things and each one of them was equally horrible! And we took VERY good care of all of our splicers.

Frank, yes they did, beyond the NeuScopes - the tape variety. They were a slightly different color, too, as I recall. But I think all you have to do is change the punch and dies, and the pins, and you can have one for scope perfs. Or negative perfs, for that matter (KS-1866, or whatever they're called - can't remember, I've been out of the loop for too long, and too lazy to look it up.)

If a Neumade is out of alignment or adjustment, it'll be just as crappy as any other. However, it takes a great deal of knowledge and skill to adjust them properly (although, if they're out of adjustment to begin with, they have either been dropped, or somebody screwed with it.) Working at theatre supply with a fine engineer who grew up as a watchmaker, I learned to get them pretty much dead-nuts-on; so much so that there was no resistance while pressing down on the handle to make a splice! Just as smooth as silk...

My experience was that degree of accuracy was not attainable in the CIR's. They just weren't designed to be aligned to as close a tolerance as the Neumades.

The 35CS (Cinemascope perf) splicer can still be had but it is a special order item....I just supplied one within the last year.

Joe,

I respect your opinion but I'm sorry that you consider my technical review/opinion that way, just because I'm Italian... Do you know what I think about Cinemeccanica, isn't it? [Smile]

I used both Neumade and CIR. Probably my neumades were in poor alignment status. But I usually do not write good things on this or that equipment just because they're "made in Italy"!!! [Smile]

Bye!
