Why are we discussing ultrasonic splices in a cement splice thread?

Ultrasonic splices are made by welding two strips of polyester film together. Cement splices are made by chemically bonding two strips of triacetate film together.

yeah, wrong thread, but whatever. here's what i do with lab splices. if it's mid-frame in a flat film or not on a frameline in a scope film, i remove the frame. i make an 8-perf splice so the tape edges are not visible.

scope frameline or flat near top or bottom of projected frame, i cut a thin sliver of opaque tape to bloop out the visual "scar" and the soundtrack. if it's a bright enough scene that the scar is less objectionable than covering it up, then i'll only bloop the soundtrack, with a small wedge of opaque tape.

Yeah. Try the Magic Answer Machine and find an appropriate thread to talk about lab splices in. Like maybe this one.
