Hey Joe.....

Actually, I use the old CFS tables. I can rewind and repair film on them without any problem. I like them. They are fast, smooth, and reliable. One of these days I'll put a larger top on them so they will handle 2 6000 foot reels.

One booth of my booths (the one in Stanwood) has a Kelmar bench facility, but I don't like it. Too much farting around to use it. But since that is a Christie booth, I have to use it to rewind a backwards reel or two now and then on build-up nights. It doesn't bother me anymore. I have a kid that puts the shows together. (Yeah - I'm a slacker sometimes)

Yeah them Kelmar tables are just way too damn complicated. Took me a few weeks to figure 'em out but I finally did. What will they think of next?

Brad, I am going out right now to go poop on a theater that has no rewind bench.

Joe, this is back from the start of this thread... i didnt say anything about loops, although I do like froot loops.

As for why my simplex XL would make those scratches out of the gate, it is a little hard to explain, but it was a combination of several variables, but once all repaired and or cleaned, worked like a charm.

Yeah - the Kelmar rewinds are really not that complicated, but the thing I don't like about any of those side-saddle rewinds is that you still can't use them to mount a reel on the platter without a bunch of guidance rollers to align the film path. It defeats the purpose. With the old CFS tables ot the Strong tables, all that extra crap that could damage the film is not needed if you limit yourself to build-up and tear down on the center platter.

I've never seen a bench rewind that is horizontal. And what's the big deal about that? The reels shouldn't fall off because they are actually angled about 10 degrees from vertical.

POOP on any kind of rewinding system that has the reels turned horizontally! Oh how I HATE horizontal rewind. Poop, poop, poop!

Ken, it isn't the angle. It is the convenience of a big horizontal table.

And, wait until your private parts get snagged by the spindle of a side-saddle table. That will change your tune.....by about two octaves or so...

If that won't change it, I don't know what will.
