I have been to that theatre on service calls and have to say it is a very clean and well maintained booth. Landmark also put some decent equpiment in when they built the place including two projectors, and consoles on thier biggest screen. I don't think they are set up for change over I think one is just a spare.  |  IP: Logged Thomas Pitt Master Film Handler Posts: 266 From: Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK Registered: May 2007 posted 06-08-2008 11:37 AM                     I must suggest the film handlers at the Bradford Cineworld - this cinema has some of the best presentation I've ever seen! I've never once had to complain about the picture or sound; they do manual starts whenever possible (so they can check focus and framing), and most of the time the picture and sound are the best I've seen in a multiplex! I have complained about other things though - like the buzzing on the front channels and disabled douser I mentioned in other threads, but that's not really the film handler's fault. Also, all three single-screen cinemas (including the IMAX) in the National Media Museum, Bradford. No, it is the Ken Cinema in the Kensington neighborhood of San Diego, CA. This theatre was, for a long while, the only full-time movie house in San Diego County still running changeovers and carbon arcs. Their projectionists took pride in keeping their vintage equipment in good shape and putting on a good show. I haven't gone to a movie there in several years but I read somewhere on the Web that the Ken threw in the towel and replaced their Super Simplexes and Peerless Magnarcs with platters and xenon and put one of their old projectors out in the (cramped) lobby on display. The story I heard was that the carbon rods were expensive and getting hard to find. I used to enjoy sitting in the very back and hearing the faint sound of reel end bell. Just wanted to mention that despite the left over splicing tape at the heads & tails, the print was in very good condition. The picture looked good on screen and the audio sounded good too - so, thanks!  |  IP: Logged
