Depends on what DeVrys you're talking about. XD portables... yep, crap. Even when new. That sounds like the ones you ran, Paul. Big, square black-box "suitcase"? Flimsy little tin gate and a single dampened sprocket at the bottom, pulling the film through a stationary (film gate) soundhead? Very hard on film.
I can't imagine any of these would be in screening rooms Phil, you must be talking about the 12000 series. If so, I agree, those were very good and reliable machines.
