I tried to fix the problem for a while and gave up in frustration. Today I tried again and it worked, so I logged in, caught up on this thread, and added a post here about the Chicago 110 union war. Then I found the John Pytlak thread, read 23 pages, and I'm wiped. I'm removing this out of respect for John. That's because, in some cases, real estate can't be donated. Like there's a camp/retreat center, Holden Village, in Eastern Washington near Lake Chelan that is owned by the Lutheran Church (ELCA) and it's an old mining community. The mining company sold the land for $1 when they were leaving. If you take a drive down Ogden Avenue in Chicago, there's a mile or so stretch where virtually every building is a Missionary Baptist Church. The area is so economically depressed that no businesses can survive, so people convert their storefronts into churches in order to avoid property tax foreclosure.  |  IP: Logged
