From where I was sitting, about two thirds of the way back that anamorphic print didn't look too bad, but I still wish they'd made some conventional prints of it.
Needless to say, I won't be there for the next show, but I will try to come over when you get the DP-70s set up. Are they going to keep one 35mm machine as well for running odd trailers, shorts etc. on as well, rather than having to change format during a show?
I've got the details of the recent black and white scope film which I told you I'd run. It's called 'Aaltra', and is a Belgium production, drected by Benoit Delepine in 2004. It was in French, Finnish and German, with English subtitles acording to the programme booklet. The print was on proper black and white stock, by Orwo, and was triacetate. The trailer was printed on colour stock, I think it was Kodak, but I'm not certain about that. Neither showed any edge print from the negative. As I said before, it looked like it had been blown up from a video transfer to 8mm film. A pity, as you don't often get to see a new black and white film these days.
There was some interesting stuff at Bradford, I finally got to see 'The Miracle of Todd-AO', in a very faded print, there was some early Todd-AO test material, printed on 65mm, 'How The West Was Won' in Cinerama, the same print I've seen before, with German titles, but with a new polyester track. The old track was on its last legs several years ago, but the new one seems to have lost some of the top end.
'Oklahoma!' was run in Todd-AO, but the next day an extract was run from the four track Cnemascope version; an interesting comparison.
Dion Hanson thinks he may have found some of the 35mm version of 'Around the World in 80 Days', with Perspecta used on the surround channel; if he has, then I want to hear it!
No doubt Bob has told you about the stuff he brought over. I spoke to him briefly. I have lost his e-mail address, if you see him would you ask him to contact me.
I hope you can make it over to Bradford one year.
Going North from Bradford you come to a very nice part of the Country, which I hope to retire to in the not too distant future.
