Author Topic: "50 YEARS OF TODD-AO" Festival John McConnel Expert Film Handler Posts: 118 From: Okmulgee, OK USA Registered: Nov 2003 posted 09-07-2007 08:53 PM                        Regarding transportation to Karlsruhe, it's convenient to get from the Frankfurt(Main, not Oder)Airport to Karlsruhe by train. The "Flughafen" train station at Frankfurt is connected to the airport. From luggage claim to the train is a pretty good walk, but it's all inside, and some of it is a moving sidewalk. At Karlsruhe, two different streetcar lines can take you from the train station to within 2 1/2 blocks of the Schauburg. Several hotels are at the train station. One could easily make this trip without ever using a taxi. Out Of Africa's director, Sydney Pollack, certainly didn't say anything like that when I interviewed him about a decade ago. In fact, throughout his career he was very pro-anamorphic, with most of his films being done that way including just about everything he did from the late-'60s through the early '80s. The reason he gave me for (reluctantly) switching to 1.85:1 was because of the disastrous results of having his scope films panned-and-scanned for the ancillary markets. Pollack admitted that in retrospect he wished he had done Out Of Africa in scope, and after about two decades of working in 1.85:1, Pollack returned to scope for (what turned out to be) his final feature, The Interpreter.  |  IP: Logged
