Author Topic: DTS XD10 running reel one, then dying??? Mike B. Smith Film Handler Posts: 82 From: Universal City Registered: Nov 2004 posted 05-18-2005 01:45 PM                     At a minimum XD10's should have software V1.01.16. The suggestion of updating the firmware is good, however it was reported the same print and discs did work previously in the same system. So the question remains what changed? If older software less than V1.01.16 is installed only the first two minutes of the feature will play...not all of reel one. If I understand correctly other features also stop playing at the start of reel two of multiple prints? Do any of the other reels of these features play? Something more is going on here. Verify where this is actually happening, is it really at the reel change or the first few minutes of reel one? If happening in reel one, updating will correct the problem. I am wondering if it is a problem with all XD10's... I just ordered one last week and talked to my supplier to find a shipping date. According to the supplier, DTS is having some issues with the XD10's and I wont be able to have mine shipped until next week... A full two weeks after I ordered it. But on to the real news, the latest software version 2.00.38 has just been released; I’m not sure of the distribution schedule but at this time all techs who service XD10’s should be getting copies of it soon. As always DTS does not charge for software updates. If you don’t receive a copy in the near future and would like to receive one, contact DTS. Just a brief summary on the new version and some of the changes and improvements, DTS has taken the recommendations received from Film-Tech members and added these where possible along with other improvements into this latest version. More audio test files such as sweeps, ES and digital silence have been added. Corrections to the operation of Preselect and automatic modes have been completed. Changes in the operation of the blue playback LED have been made, it will be on steady when receiving correct time code and playing the matching audio, same as before, but if the format is switched out of Digital while valid Timecode and audio is still playing the LED will now blink, this is to notify the operator the Cinema Processor is no longer in the Digital format. In the option areas of CSS and Preshow many updates and additions have been done, in the CSS menu when using a color projector instead of a DTS-CSP you can now change font color to improve subtitle readability. There is also a short cut function for CSS mode operation that allows the choice of one show only, this feature will automatically turn off the subtitle projector after the show. Items in the Preshow option have also been improved and finally available is the ability to use a USB flash drive to save configurations, transfer settings and view log files, (you’ll get to use this feature when performing the update), DTS is providing the USB flash drive in the update package along with a new manual. Be aware, this is a major update that requires reloading the operating system; this process will take about 40 minutes to download. But don’t let this scare you, the instructions are very clear on how to do the procedure. If you have any questions prior to starting the update ask. It is highly recommended and encouraged that all XD10’s be updated to this new version. You will find that the boot up time is faster and the initialization problem that many of you have experienced has been corrected. With this new version it will now be possible to receive system updates on trailer or feature discs that will automatically update the XD10. The XD10 software update kit should be available from your local DTS dealers soon, unfortunately this update can not be e-mailed, must be shipped, so Ian, if you can’t get your hands on one let me know. And last... sorry Steve, not yet, some of us here are still pushing for this feature but it slid down the list of priorities.
