It is all too easy to 'overteach' an enthusiastic trainee before they've had chance to absorb the last chunk of information. Try to teach them information when (or just before) they need to know it, then re-enforce it afterwards. Sometimes you 'don't realise what you don't know' because you haven't had the opportunity to see the full picture!! Oh, and start with what may seem obvious. Get them, to look at a length of film. What can they tell you about it? Do they know where the soundtracks are located? Can they spot anything unusual about an image produced by ab anamorphic lens? How fast do they think it might move through a projector (frames per second and linear speed). Use all this as a topic for discussion.
