Interestingly, when one of my booth guys tore down Indiana Jones, he locked one of the cans back up after he was done. I already had that happen. I can't remember the title but I had to get in touch with Technicolor to have them send me a new key. If someone else on your theater staff doesn't give it to you promptly then they are to blame, not the studio or wrong KDM. You can know even before the play date goes into effect if the KDM is correct or not. I also recieve a cc copy of many kdm's in my e-mail in case a customers mail file becomes corrupted. Also be sure you have a new KDM a day before the old one is set to expire. If you are a large multiplex you just about have to make a log to track them. Perhaps David Z. or Mike R. can stop here and fill us in on how they handle KDM's. For the most part many of the studios have someone available 24/7 to generate energency KDMs if needed. All you need is the correct contact number. A prime example of that was last New Years when all the Dolby Servers crashed at once in SLC due to an unknown midnight bug in the software... about 30 of them. The local tech, one of our F-T members in fact had all of them back on screen in about 2 hours time. He just had the correct contact numbers and peoples names to get the new KDM's from. Being prepared and thinking ahead is all it takes.
