Ha ha no. I sent them the form that actually comes with the equipment via snail mail. It is possible that it got lost or maybe Dolby moved, I dunno. It never bounced back or anything.

The Flying Disc is my favorite DTS trailer, with the sparks as 2nd. THX I like either of the Tex ones, before they remixed the chord to a higer/weaker pitch. Also the Simpsons for being funny. Dolby, I liked the Train for analog, and Egypt for the digital best. Just my $0.02.

who is everyone contacting to get a hold of Dolby promotional items? I faxed a promo item order page to someone when we first opened our theatre (almost 2 years ago) and they never got back to me.

DTS on the other hand was extremely prompt and friendly everytime I've delt with them.

anyways, I'd still like to get a couple Dolby plaques and promo stuff. what email address is everyone sending their request to?

Interesting. They sent the promotional stuff to my home address, but they still haven't added my screening room to the list of DTS equipped cinemas.

The Dolby stuff that I ordered (using their standard order form and, separately, a letter that listed serial numbers) was for a theatre and never arrived.

Wasn't Dolby charging theaters something like $100 per trailer back in the 1990s?

I'm a little surprised Dolby and DTS are still filling requests for promotional material with items using out of date logos.

These are the most current logos for Dolby Digital and DTS:

I haven't seen any promotional materials in commercial theaters featuring either of those logos yet.

However, it's worth noting the company handling DTS cinema efforts is still using the older DTS logo. Nevertheless, I have seen the newer DTS logo with that swirly cheeze cutter icon thing showing up on end credits in some movies. The new DTS logo has pretty much replaced the old one on home video packaging, especially on Blu-ray releases.

I wonder how costly it would be for Dolby to go back and revamp a bunch of its Dolby Digital trailers with the new logo. Or better yet, can they retool those trailers for Dolby TrueHD use on Blu-ray? DTS-HD seems to be grabbing more and more business on the Blu-ray movie audio front.

AFAIK, Dolby never made a version of the Train trailer for analog formats. That one was strictly for Dolby Digital. At least 3 different versions of the Train trailer were made in the early 1990s. The original had the "Dolby Stereo Digital" logo on it, and also had the most aggressive sound mix. A second "Dolby Stereo Digital" Train trailer was made with some sort of pan flute musical intro. Then a 3rd version was made with the 1995 redo of the Dolby Digital logo.

Dolby did have a trailer called Temple which was created for shows in either Dolby A or Dolby SR. I never saw it used in a theatrical setting.

Hi Bobby,

The DTS Logo in the autumn colors and the mobius swirl actually belongs to DTS, Inc. and applies only to consumer technology (DVD, BD, broadcast etc.) The logo for theatrical use is for the moment the old standby plain-DTS-in-a-box.

We will be rebranding under our new name, Datasat Digital Entertainment, and will be rolling out new materials under that name, with a new logo. Stay tuned.

Will there be new film sound logos using the "Datastat" logo? If so, I find that very interesting. Due to DTS' prominence in the home market, it'd be wise to stay with the DTS name as far as cinema sound is concerned. Makes it more marketable.

Hi Joe,

Over time we will be re-branding under the Datasat name; however, we definitely take your point that there is an awful lot of brand equity in the DTS name. Final disposition of logo usage and so on is still being worked on.

Meanwhile, please be assured that even under a new name and ownership, our commitment to our historic products (digital sound and captions for 35mm, 70mm and Special Venue applications) remains firm, even as we roll out our new DC20 server and other products and services for D-Cinema.
