Try pushing up on the rollers they should STAY up and not come down when released...you should feel the counterbalance of the spring...just like on a penthouse reader for digital. I can't believe they never put shields on them! That is down right incompetent. The later model 35/70 Simplex that I had originally installed during the renovation was actually a far superior projector. For I remember when Mark installed that Simplex 35/70/5Star with a Super80 setup a few years back and modding the AW3 for 35/70 operation..
