All in all, it's an excellent release!
Two formeost irritants, though:
1. Cheap synthesizer versions of "Merrily We Roll Along" or "Merry Go Round Broke Down" over the Menu screen. What the hell? Didn't the last set have a feature on Carl Stalling where the guys said what set the WB cartoons apart was the full WB orchestra, & that nowadays cartoons just have a synthesizer? And why not just USE the title music from the cartoons? Whose nephew got some bucks for a synthesizer version of them for the DVD?
2. Audio: on some of the cartoons, there's a blatant lack of high freqs & sometimes upper midrange. Sometimes the attenuation moves around the freqs, making me think some frequency-specific gating was used to ameliorate some noise or distortion around those areas that somebody didn't like. They should have just left it. The cartoon that it's most obvious on is really missing a lot on top & sounds like there's a pillow over the speaker, & it's probably the most music-famous cartoon. It's like the audio guys worried it over too much, & certainly more than they needed to. It's criminal! That vintage WB soundtrack sound in the cartoons & features is one of the great joys of movies: snappy, punchy; they sound like Chuck Berry records. WB sound had everyone else's beat, & it sounded good on it's own!

What's been censored from "Duck Dodgers in the 24th 1/2 Century"?
This is a fun collection, lots of stuff you rarely see like Freleng's "She Was An Acrobat's Daughter", which is a great representation of folks going to the movies at that time (& a great cartoon theater), lots of excellent studio transfers of titles that have gone PD so those cheap PD WB cartoon DVD's can be tossed, original black & white versions of the titles that can usually only be seen in the inferior versions which were decades ago poorly colorized by re-painting the cels & re-shooting, nice big chunks of hilarious McKimson & Clampett stuff, & a good inclusion of Tahlin's stuff.
With the "intended for adults" label & an explanatory introduction by Whoopi Goldberg In A Room That Doesn't Exist & We Don't Care That It Looks That Way But We Can't Explain Why We're Doing It That Way Anyway, I sort of thought the strategy would be to put in as many of the cartoons with offensive stereotypes & just get it over with in this set, but they didn't. Off the top of my head, the Bugs Bunny cartoon set in Mythical Dixie ("Oh, Belvedere!") with the ending blackface gag at the end isn't on it.
I've still got some beefs with the re-mastered audio for modern tastes that isn't as punchy & dynamically compressed as the original soundtracks, & a little less with the tweaked images (2-color Technicolor never looked like it does here).

That was part of a gag reel made at the WB cartoon studio, never intended to get out, & of course it did. I sort of doubt WB will release it on DVD for corporate image reasons.
It was run in a midnight show of Hollywood blooper reels I attended at a theater in Manhattan with a good-size house of a few hundred young adults, & I thought the roof was going to come off & the carpets would have to be cleaned. People were losing their minds. If the floor fell out from under them they couldn't have been more freaked out. It was pandemonium.
It's got to be PD, never copyrighted; I wonder if it's on any of those cheapo no-name blooper DVD's in bins at Wal-Mart, dollar stores, etc. The hot cartoon tip is that dollar stores have huge bins of no-name DVD's with great collections of orphaned & black & white cartoons like the Van Burens, Fleischers, Terry, etc. Those things are fabulously hilarious & weird.
