When putting LDs onto DVD, I set my player so it displays "A--B" on the screen while it's switching sides, and "STOP" at the end of side 2. That way, I can run it through the computer and edit out the player spinning up the disc, changing sides and stopping, but nothing that's on the actual disc. I can't retain any AC3 or DTS tracks, or record both the PCM and analog tracks which would be helpful when there's alternate audio on the analog tracks; I just don't transfer discs that have those. I still prefer to play the actual laserdisc if I have it anyways since the uncompressed PCM sound is better.
Some cool laserdisc stuff I've put online: Original Image Entertainment opening, followed by short list of available porn titles. Image used the "flying discs" opening on all their titles til 1989, if you freeze it you can see that all the discs are "Debbie Does Dallas". I have a couple G-rated movies that have this opening. The part listing the porno titles was only included on porno movies however. Later Image opening from 1989 til the end of the format, also found on their first DVDs.
The familiar "turtle side", but in Japanese.
"Wrong Side" message from LDs pressed by Technidisc, the worst laserdisc manufacturer though this one is quite good.
