He has over 1200 titles and yes they sure are fun to watch. But, that's what many years of watching anamorphic DVDs without the cross-chrominance and cross-luminance interference, time-base error, and lower-bandwidth color will do to us. A laserdisc will look, at best, as good as a clear TV broadcast on an analog SDTV channel, on most equipment. I supposed that LaserDisc was designed to be awesome on the best display available at the time, which was a normal TV set I guess. When ever something comes out on DVD that we have on LD we buy it and try to unload the LD. That being said, a ton of the stuff we have still hasn't and probably won't come out on DVD. Yes, when I put on a LD I do think that the picture quality isn't as good as DVD. I used to think that LDs looked GREAT. I was watching something on VHS at my parent's house not to long ago and the quality was HORRIBLE. One thing I remember is on the Frighteners boxset, there was a 4 hour making of documentary. God, I remember the bitching an moaning from the Dolby crowd about how DTS only sounded better because it was louder, blah, blah. This got turned up when discs began to be released in both DD and DTS versions. The DTS disc was invariably louder. It turned out that the stems being given to DTS were the theatrical versions, while the Dolby versions had been re-leveled or something like that. I never understood the absolute witchhunt the DD guys were on. Just freakin' turn down the volume when you play a DTS disc. Jeesh. Han shot first, after all and was damn proud of it. Anyone else have a Pioneer VP1000(A)? How about the CLD-900 (first combo LD/CD), DVL-700 (first LD/DVD/CD) For what its worth...I just recently played several of my LDs...including A League of Their Own. My wife didn't even realize I was running an LD until the A->B side change came up an hour in.  |  IP: Logged
