I am watching season 2 of the Walking Dead right now, three shows are available so far with the fourth being available next week. The blu ray on the hand will come out after season 2 ends blah blah blah.

Am I seriously going to wait for the program to come out on 1080p after the season ends when I can watch it right now?

BTW, yes, I'll call you a "troll" for throwing Apple TV flame-bait into a thread whose topic is Blu-ray. The "troll" label fits you well since you habitually toss argumentative statements into many topics. Most of us prefer real 15/70 IMAX, so you start pushing fake "digital IMAX" as being better. Movies shot on film look better, so you root for shitty looking video-based stuff like Black Swan to win the best cinematography Oscar instead of a movie (Inception) that was shot on 35mm anamorphic and 5/65mm. You're pushing a lot of this crap just to annoy the hell out of many long-time F-T forum members such as myself.

As far as Apple TV goes, it is indeed shit or at least irrelevant. In terms of movie streaming services it sucks compared to the alternatives. Apple is just trying to leverage iTunes to force people to use that crappy product. Worse yet, they won't offer full Blu-ray functionality on Apple-branded computers because they're more interested in pushing Apple TV. So I'm really going to hate on them for that. In terms of speed Netflix is every bit as fast, but priced better. Streaming services like VuDu offer superior audio/video quality, better prices and it works on a variety of TV sets and gaming devices. Apple TV only works on that little Apple-branded device.

I can set my DVR to record the whole season in 1080i HD. Granted, I have to have cable/satellite TV to do that. OTOH, just a little web searching will find sites where you can watch/download the episodes for nothing. I could connect my computer and TV via HDMI and start watching that way.

Yes, "media streaming" was already enabled. I thought that and entering in the PS3's MAC address under network devices would be enough to do the trick. I keep thinking there's some other third party piece of software from Sony I need to install on my computer.

Another possible wrinkle: use of external hard discs. Much of my music is on those things rather than the local hard disc. The Windows Media Center hooks in the PS3 show the media folders on the external hard disc, but just don't want to show the content (lots and lots of CD quality WAV files).

BTW, Black Swan wasn't exclusively shot in "video." It used some 16mm... But I'm just meaning this to stir up an already angry argument. [Wink]

Bobby, you need to relax on this 15/70 stuff vs digital. Black Swan was nominated for best cinematography, I am assuming you disagree with it? The fact that a film was filmed "IN FILM" or "15/70" makes no difference if the film should win the Oscar or not.

To me, for Hollywood motion pictures, I prefer IMAX Digital over 15/70. My latest experience with Tron 15/70 showed a scratch and you could hear the projector ever so slightly through the port glass. I have never ever had an issue with IMAX Digital and I seek it out even though there is a 15/70 across the highway from it. You can spew all you want about technically superiority of 15/70 all you want, all I have to add is that when I watch TRON/SUPER8/IAM4 in IMAX Digital, I didnt have no stupid green scratch running the whole movie.

Bobby, the vast majority of Black Swan was shot on Super 16 -- only the rehearsal scenes and the subway scene (where they couldn't get permits for proper filming fast enough) were digitally shot. So much for attention to detail...

More scenes than that were filmed using a Canon EOS 7D DSLR camera. Nevertheless, the movie overall was not a great example of cinematography. I think the notion that some of it was shot "guerrila style" made it more fashionable to some voters. Thankfully, Inception won the Oscar. It was far more worthy.

Expect less, pay more, eh? I guess Apple user's standards aren't very high and Apple shouldn't worry about pushing any envelopes since they've already achieved "good enough" status. Anyway as you are probably not aware, the Apple TV has not exactly set the consumer market on fire. Most people simply use their PS3s or Xbox 360s to accomplish the same task but with greater capability and more versatility than an Apple TV.

For TV shows like Walking Dead, I really don't care what resolution I watch them in. They're TV shows. Though Top Gear (UK version) sure looks nice in 1080i on Sunday nights.

For the record, I bought Walking Season 1 for $16.99 used and watched it in 720p on my small HDTV, I liked the show so much that I purchased the seasons pass for Walking Dead Season 2 on iTunes for $23.99 in standard def.

Resolution is less important than convienience which is why blu-ray is good, but the Apple is more efficient.

That is a lot of money just to watch one TV show that you can't keep forever (and only in SD)... especially when there are so few episodes in a season of the Walking Dead.

Walking Dead is pretty good, but I am beginning to tire of the zombie fad already.

Joe-it has nothing to do with keeping the show or watching it again. It has everything to do with convienience, I am not going to wait 3 months after the shows have played on tv to finally go out to the store, buy the blu ray and come home and watch it in TrueHD master audio.

With iTunes, I simply purchase the season pass, watch the show as the become available and I am set. I could of purchased the HD verion if I wanted to. I dont have cable and don't need a PVR. I should mention that I only choose iTunes because I have been using it for many years now.

A thesaurus to go along with said dictionary to aid in finding the right word would also be nice. Often these are sold in sets with a dictionary.

Back on topic for a moment if I may.
I recently made a trip to Canada (Winkler MB to be exact) and was surprised to see many Blu-ray titles at a Walmart-like store (Real Canadian Superstore) priced under $10.00 In fact, we picked up three disk sets of Star War's ep 1-3 & 4-6 for around $21/set. We were then surprised again by being charged $.05 apiece for plastic grocery bags to carry our purchases out of the store...

I, recently, went on a BluRay buying binge...the qualifications...the disc had to be one I was interested in, first and foremost and the second qualification was it had to be priced around the $10.00 mark. You'd be amazed at how many titles met those two criteria. I think the Cinema Paradiso in BluRay was more like $5.00. I got them on Amazon and received free freight too.
