Author Topic: The new HAWAII 5-0 David Stambaugh Film God Posts: 4021 From: Eugene, Oregon Registered: Jan 2002 posted 10-12-2010 12:47 PM                        I haven't checked recently but in the past the OTA and cable HD images have always looked identical to me, whether good or bad depending on the specific program. The station is KVAL, operated by Fisher Communications. They have one digital subchannel for something called "THIS-TV" whatever the hell that is. All the local network affiliates have subchannels and they rarely look as bad as the example I cited. In that pic, another actor has just passed from left to right across the screen in front of the general. As that actor leaves the frame, the image falls apart as it tries to assemble enough bits to regenerate the correct image.  |  IP: Logged Claude S. Posts: 1431 From: Waukee, IA Registered: Dec 2004 posted 10-13-2010 07:03 PM                        We have THIS TV on what's supposed to be a MAIN channel, but is broadcasting as a sub channel while their parent company milks a waiver they have on building their second digital license (long story...it was an analog station that went on the air too late to get an HD license, so they licensed an available digital slot to run their HD programming on and upon flash-cutting their analog channel, now have two digital licenses). Anyway, they play old movies from the MGM library. I watch it once in awhile on the bedroom set. KVAL, eh. One of the things I like about it is picking out all the locations I've been to while I've visited Hawaii. On last weeks episode, they filmed at Waialae Beach near the Hilton, where the Magnum PI bar was set in the last few years of the show.  |  IP: Logged
