An upgrade to SR projector software isn't going to affect your QTRU. What problems are you experiencing?

communication problems between the qtru and the mpx. happens at start of show. QTRU appears to get a power spike of some kind, the selected platters unselect themselves and the system performs a controlled stop. We have a tech that will be coming in soon anyway.

The scariest thing about HP 5 is that GT theatres have the left eye as the main / master eye with the right eye running mainly black until the the 3D finale. For SR projectors, God bless them, the right eye is the master ,as per norm, while the left kicks in just before the 3D starts.

Just imagine someone accidentally sends a GT right eye with a SR left eye to a SR theatre.

For just under 2 hours the right projector runs black, with sound of course, then both eyes spring into life for the 3D ending.

A darker version of Derek Jarman's "Blue" with a surprise ending [Big Grin]

I'd hope the operator would pick this up in plenty of time and that it'd never make it to the screen like that.

IMAX films are at theatres much earlier than their 35mm counterparts.

So would I. [Wink]

Not necessarily I'm afraid. I have had an unassembled 3D 45minute feature , about 24 reels, arrive at 10am the day before the first public show. That was a long day and night.

Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to Open in Record Number of IMAX(R) Theatres

IMAX Audiences to Experience the Film's Final Scenes in IMAX(R) 3D

LOS ANGELES, July 11, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Warner Bros. Pictures' highly-anticipated next installment of the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, will cast its spell in IMAX when it opens in a record 126 IMAX(R) theatres worldwide today and throughout the weekend. Strong ticket pre-sales at many IMAX theatres across North America are resulting in sold out shows throughout the opening weekend and some theatres are adding additional shows to accommodate the high demand. The film is also scheduled to open in 17 additional international locations in the coming weeks. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience(R) using IMAX DMR(R) (Digital Re-Mastering) technology.

In addition to being digitally re-mastered into IMAX's 2D format, the film's finale has been digitally converted into An IMAX 3D Experience(R) with IMAX Corporation's live-action 2D to 3D conversion technology. The combination of IMAX's unique theatre geometry and size, multi-channel digital surround sound and IMAX's powerful projector makes IMAX(R) 3D the most immersive cinematic 3D ever created.

"Releasing this Harry Potter film in a record number of North American theaters is a testament to our belief in this movie and the strength of this property," said Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures. "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix carries on the tradition of this amazing series and we are thrilled to be able to bring it to theatergoers in both conventional and IMAX theaters - with the special 3D finale."

"This is the largest simultaneous release in IMAX's 40-year history, and we are delighted to reach this milestone with our partners at Warner Bros. Pictures," said IMAX Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler. "Consumer demand for blockbusters in IMAX has contributed to the growth of the IMAX theatre network, and that growth enables us to share this next exciting installment of the Harry Potter film series with more moviegoers worldwide."

"Harry Potter is truly a global phenomenon, and we are excited to offer to international audiences a new way to experience the series with the finale of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix presented in IMAX 3D," said Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

"We are very excited to offer fans of Harry Potter a chance to get transported directly into Hogwarts to experience the adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione in a completely unique first-person way," added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Through the magic of IMAX and the vision of David Yates and his crew, moviegoers will already feel as is if they are part of the movie, and we are thrilled to treat them to an even more immersive experience with the finale of the film converted into IMAX 3D."

So, is the 3D as crappy as Superman Returns or has it improved?

Hey John,

I am impressed with this one. The 3D is really well done and looks great on screen. There are a couple scenes that look visually out-of-sync, but these come and go so fast, unless you have a trained eye, you wouldn't notice it. [thumbsup]

I saw this in Toronto today - there were a few parts where the characters looked shadowed, like the 3-D conversion hadn't been done quite right. Most of it was excellent though [Smile]

Just saw the 9:30am showing at the Edwards Mira Mesa 18 in IMAX and all I can say is "Incredible". This is the first time that I have ever seen an actual movie in the IMAX Format.

Chad, if you think this is incredible, wait till you see a REAL IMAX movie -- one shot with IMAX cameras and 70mm negative. THAT's what IMAX can REALLY do, not this wussy, half-assed commercial sell-out, up-converting 35mm material through a computer just so they can cash in on blockbuster movies.

Just because it's running on an IMAX projector doesn't mean you are seeing nearly the full potential of the "IMAX Format." It's like looking at a scope movie on an IPod. It's like microwaving a Lean Cuizine and thinking you are eating a Peter Lugar's steak dinner. It's like looking at a xerox copy of a Monet painting and thinking you are actually seeing the artist's work. It's like clothspinning playing cards to the spokes of your bicycle wheel and pretending that you are riding a motorcycle. It's like....OK, I'll stop now. No, wait...one more: It's like getting picked up in a bar by an sultry, incedibly sexy woman and then after you've taken her to your room and had sex with her, she asks you for $100 plus carfare.

But as bloodless, watered down systems go, the IMAX converted 35mm movies are better than what's coming.....DIGITAL projection IMAX or D-IMAX or S(hit)-IMAX. So see as much IMAX as you can while they are still running 70mm film, no matter what the origins because NOTHING IS SACRED when the Deee word is around.

Agreed [thumbsup]

IMAX really shines when shown using the entire process.

These MPX systems that are being installed on undersized, retrofitted screens just don't do the format justice.
