(I know it hasn't been used in quite some time. I'm being partially flippant.) If the projector encoder or the interlock distribution device failed, the backup audio would be out of sync too. If it was the audio playback device that failed, then a dubber reel likely would have saved the show. That would be a huge reel. Who knows if the dubbers could have been modified to handle a feature length roll of mag stock.  |  IP: Logged Kurt Zupin Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 989 From: Maricopa, Arizona Registered: Oct 2004 posted 07-09-2012 04:43 PM                     There's just no way that the dubber would be able to handle the load of a full length 2 hr plus movie. Imagine how big a 35mm print is, usually 2 6k's give or take a little. So you need to have an entire 35mm Dubber sound track of the movie, which in turn would be the size of the film in 35. Just wouldn't work. On to the article, either this guy that was running the show is a team lead or he's one of the worst IMAX projectionist's around. To fix this problem you don't just stop the show and then come back 20 minutes later and say its done. You can attempt to fix the sync issue while the shows running. It may or may not work but you don't just stop the show. I've had sync issues before where, when your locking the sound track in on the DFP your sync light flashes, you don't notice and it starts out of sync. Also had it drift out during a show once, was able to get it back. However, it looks like they've only scheduled TDKR until August 28th, and of course I'm really busy until the end of the month... I wonder what are the chances of BFI doing a rerun in 15/70mm later? Did they do anything like that with The Dark Knight – does anyone remember?  |  IP: Logged Claude S. Honolulu at one time had two 15/70 theatres but they are both gone now. One was at the Polynesian Cultural Centre at Laie on the north shore of Oahu and the other one was in the Waikiki district of Honolulu. The one in Wakikiki was part of Consolidated's Theatre' s Waikiki theatre complex consisting of the Wakiki #1, #2 and #3 theatres and the IMAX. I used to go the the Waikiki IMAX frequently and the last movie I saw there was Disney's BEAUTY & THE BEAST. A makeshift TAP program just for this release, of sorts... It looks like I'll end up at Navy Pier for it, and plan to give a full review when done.
