Mark, I don't like doing this, but I feel compelled. The published support lifetime for XPe is until: XP Embedded has a Life Cycled to 2017, Standard Embedded (the newly released Embedded OS that would run the Qube environment) is Life Cycled till 2024, etc
Rather than sprout opinion, research the facts; http://www.xppro2016.com/lifecycle
Like I said Mark, please do not spread FUD. It is for this reason, the use of FUD in the industry, that I started the www.cinetechgeek.com website. Cinema owners need to make decisions based on good and true information. -- Brendon (or Nick on as Brendon), I make comment on your posts as they are derogitory, "This is shit, that is crap". Film-tech is a community website in which those in the cinema industry can discuss their industry. If you want to put forward an opinion about a product, state your opinion and some reasons why. Add to the sites knowledge.
If you worked for any of the companies I am a part owner in, I would severely reprimand you for how you behave. If you kept it up, you would be fired. In my companies we put a very honest foot forward and are willing to discuss any aspects of the technology in question. They all have qualities that make them more applicable for certain purposes. We would not recommend a product that is not suited for the purpose.
We believe to be honest with your exhibition clients is best. We may loose a job now and then to the, sell it at all costs type supplier, but we can sleep at night, and are likely to be here in the long term.

quote: Phil Blake Digital is still allowing me to continue my passion in this industry
That's great Phil. This may be true for you if you have a medical condition as you explained. However, when sites start to do full digital conversions there is going to be another object stuck between the 35mm projector and horse & cart at the museum. It's called a projectionist. I don't think Digital is going to be the answer for any budding career projectionist! The passion will end for most.

Janes, that's completely unfair. So I should refer to you as James Gardiner AKA Martin Gardiner AKA Mike Smith??? www.d-cine.net Course not. You are entitled to your opinion as am I. As for my credentials, I have worked as a projectionist for over 10 years. I have actually worked IN the exhibition industry. You come across as a bit of a tourist who may know a bit about the relevance of an outdated operating system but that's about it. I'm not challenging the relevance of XPe cause I know nothing about it. Maybe you should take a same approach as to the entire exhibition industry??
I actually find your cinetechgeek website to be full of 'Female Urination Devices' because on most of your topics you seem to have very little knowledge on what you are talking about. Like the RealD XL video. You introduce yourself as the installer but then admit you don't even really know how it works. That's not educational my friend, that's scary.. (By the way, not a good idea to stack all you amps and sound processor under the projector without even 1 RU of rack space ventilation. Those Panastereo's tend to run a little hot my friend. I'll give you 8 to 12 months before you do your first power supply of sub excavator card.) Not that you need my advice. You clearly know everything.
The reason I don't get 'fired' as you put it is because this is my opinion and has nothing to do with any of the companies that I work for. You know, the Nazi's believed in censorship too. So everyone at your workplace can't have an opinion is that what you are saying? If one of your employees didn't like Xpand that would be game over for them?? Sounds like an awesome working environment you have there.
Just so it's absolutely clear in you head. (I have already given my reasons why I think Xpand is crap in other posts.) I found it incredibly dull, the glasses were uncomfortable/expensive/batteries. It gave me a headache after 15 minutes. It is my opinion. All the other 3D systems I don't have a problem with. I just didn't like this one. Get over it.
