As neither the Sony nor the Dolby has balanced inputs, I use the transformers only for ground isolation. I have very simple stereo transformers, probably not easy to find outside germany, but any passive DI-Box with ground lift or custom cabling should do.
It really helps with 6 additional analog channels from a consumer device. I would even suggest to put something like this in front of the EX-6ch analog In as a general measure. There should be 8ch 19" units available with ground lift.
This one is 6ch, and even has level adjustment, but I don't know wether it's available outside germany:

They do ship internationally, though. The Sony has slightly lower levels, especially after surround level calibration. It's still fine for our CP65, we just have to dial up to Dolby level 8-9 or so. But if the DI box offers some gain itself...
With the Sony 7.1 output and a suitable speaker/amp layout, maybe an 8ch device would be a better choice.
