Of course she will be taking a certain 'view' on the issue, and good on her for doing so. quote: Sam D. If one's main concerns are to the bias or lack thereof, then those that wish are more than entitled to produce their own view of the issues of concern. Jenn is right about Michael Moore - love him or loathe him, he has brought the documentary format to the attention of many who would not normally consider such films and as such is to be applauded. Everyone here on this site knows my opinion on digital imaging, but just because I consider it as souless as a zombies eye socket does not mean I wouldn't go to see a documentary on that subject. So, there is the challenge. Edward Havens needs to cut you some slack. Wait what door are we talking about? I have built up a nice little following based on quality classics presented on the big screen in 35mm.This is very nostalgia driven. It's working better now than the early 80s when home video became dominant.In the 90s it was near impossible but young people now are showing a lot of interest in film revivals that I never thought I would see. I stand behind Michael Moores films 100% as being very fair,very intelligent and not preaching to the choir. As a documentarian, he's amongst the absolute worst, although I did applaud him when his segments from The Awful Truth would shame people and companies in to reversing policies. That's the Michael Moore I wish we still had. As related to the film currently being made by Jenn Jennings, I consider it fair that we should let the lady present her documentary and not crucify her efforts without even seeing the result of her efforts. Methods-I plan to make the movie by any means necessary. I started by picking up a camera and started on a journey. I can't wait to see where it takes me because so far it has been wonderful! Thanks for your positive notes (and negative). It all motivates me and helps me know which direction I need to go.  |  IP: Logged Mike Blakesley Film God Posts: 12767 From: Forsyth, Montana Registered: Jun 99 posted 12-07-2011 10:25 PM                        I just watched the trailer on the website and while the project looks VERY interesting and I look forward to seeing it (or showing it?) someday, it does seem to be sort of a hatchet-job on the digital cinema idea. This movie assumes quite confidently that there will be no small theatres anymore, once film ends. Well there are at least 15 little theatres I know of in Montana alone (mine included) that have made the switch. Most of them single- or two-screen, all of them mom'n'pop operations. I've also had conversations with several owners around the country, who have read my comments on this site, who have asked me about our conversion experience and are planning (or have completed) their own conversion. Some are in towns even smaller than ours. Some are doing it without the stupid VPFs, and somehow we're figuring it out. Do you have to love the business to be a small operation in the digital age? Yes, but there was the same requirement in the film age. Nobody in the "small theatre" business is getting rich, that's a guarantee. I have always thought that the biggest reason a lot of small theatres are in trouble is that their PRICES ARE TOO LOW. They are showing the same movies as their big-city counterparts, but they charge $4 or less a ticket. That might work in a city where you have a lot of people but if you're in a town of a few thousand or less, you have to charge the going rate or you'll never get anywhere. Our ticket prices are a LITTLE lower than the city prices but not all that much. This is what's enabled us to stay in the game, in my opinion. So I'm a bit bothered by the pessimistic nature of this documentary. It's a little doom-and-gloomy for my taste. I had to put together something to help bring attention to the project. I still have 2-3 months of shooting to do and am in no way finished with the project. The campaign is to help with the start up costs for the project so that I could afford to travel to get the other stories out there. What you see in the trailer is what I was able to get locally here in Boston, MA.
